Cordless polisher battery

I used one of my batteries and recharged it and it shows 3 of the 4 bars charged. The polisher cycles on and immediately turns off with this battery. I use the other battery and the polisher works fine. I have only used the battery that is not performing once? Am I charging it incorrectly or is the battery bad?
