I received my pc7424 today.

Question:

 

Is it supposed to sound like marbles in your hand being squeezed together numerous times while it is running free wheel (not pressed up against a surface)?

Did you install the washer ? Mine did until I put that in. It was the backing plate rubbing against the PC's body.

Double check the washer like Bill said. The PC does vibrate quite a bit and can make a clacking sound when not pressed against anything. It's also fantastic for mixing drinks when rigged properly

I don't know if this would make much of a difference but in the directions that came with the PC it says under operation "NEVER run or stop the tool when it is not in contact with the work surface."

I think that warning is if you are using it as a sander

 

Just make sure you've installed the included washer as Bill said and you should be fine. Now that you mention it, it does kind of sound like marbles rubbing against each other

Aye. The PC gives you some nasty vibrations. It's a bit more comfortable if you don't use the side handle - just hold it at 12:00 and 6:00. A quality set of mechanics gloves helps a bit too.
