**Disclaimer - I am new to all this so be sure you watch those videos**

First watch these videos, Adam tells you what spiders\swirls are and allot more

http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1868

Junkman runs you through how to do a test spot on your car.

http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3666

No way can you do it in 3-4 hours, at least not properly. Took me like 30 hours to properly do mine, but I am picky.

You are better off doing a panel a day in your case.

Be sure to read up on claying your car (also in junkman's video)

From what I have read and personal experience you will 99% of the time, even on new cars start with orange pad and SHR.

Checking out the videos is a great first step. After that, work a small area until you get t he results you're looking for... every car finish is different (as is the starting condition), plus what looks great to some is just mediocre to someone else -- everyone has different expectations and standards. So, there's really no way to estimate how long a particular job will take.

I find the best way to do it is to take your time and enjoy the process. And don't feel the need to get the entire car done in one sitting -- chances are you'll just get tired, start taking shortcuts and in the end be unhappy with the results.

Spend a bit more time around the forum, too -- you'll get some great tips, laughs, and inspiration. :2thumbs:

And welcome to AF!

Personal experience ?????

Sure, I'll not try to help people if you just want to laugh at me. We all start somewhere. Never count the rookie out:confused:

I have 2 new vehicles, both were in bad need of orange pad. Sorry I can't afford 10 new vehicles to work on. Would that be enough for personal experience? 2 new vehicles in BAD need of orange pad is experience in my book. I spent hours reading these and other forums too, watching hours of video. Just because I have only worked on 2 cars does not mean I haven't done my homework.

Anyway, was anything I said wrong? Did I mislead him in any way? I guess my 2 car experience don't count....

When you start giving people percentage based on your personal experience yes you are misleading people.

what is the difference between spider webs and swirls?
basically the same thing

how do you gauge starting with shr vs fmp.

it depends on the severity of the swirls. you can post a picture to let others get a better idea of what direction to steer you in but most of the time you'll need to start with SHR.

on that note how long does it take folks to polish a car? all day a few hours?

every car and paint finish type are different, and factoring in the condition of the finish, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to correct an entire car. I spent about 6 hours on my Corvette just correcting the paint, and in comparison to most cars C4's are small

one more i do not have a garage and only about 3-4 hours of shade can one polish in the sun? ok i"ll stop:)

It will be better for both you and the car for paint correction to be done in the shade. I would ask a friend if you can use their garage for a day. You don't want the surface of the car to be hot when you do this, and you don't want to sweat to death either

Ken, first off, welcome to the forum.

My best advice to you is to listen to the advice that the Moderators and Detail Advisors give you. They're the specialists and they have the most knowledge about what to do and how to do it. They have your best interest at heart and only want you to succeed in detailing. Adam's makes the best products on the market, and with their help, you'll have the best looking car in your neighborhood.

Take some time and watch the Junkman's videos and Adam's videos. Write down whatever questions you have and ask them here. We'll all get you on the right track.

Do not rush! This is the worst thing you can do and will cause you to make mistakes and not do a proper job. Don't do the job when you only have an hour or so. Give yourself lots of time. Most things will take longer than you think. Also plan out what you will be doing and in what order.
