As an city dweller, I have to use the self-wash bays at the automated car wash down the street where I hand soap the car while the wife uses the sprayer without pulling the trigger. If you can be 150% positive that your paint has absolutely NO grit anywhere on it they can be used safely, but its so hard to do that in an uncontrolled environment like a garage or driveway that its best not to set yourself up to fail. I do have one, but I just use it to knock water off of the glass and my tonneau cover since its textured plastic and it doesn't need a delicate touch.
