Hand wax vs. Machine Wax

austin monk

Question

Ive had some bad experiences with hand waxing but ive never really done any waxing with a buffer. Ive waxed my truck before and looked good, but then i would try and wipe the wax off and there would be streaks I couldnt get out or come time for the next wash you could see all the swirls. What am I doing wrong, i tend to overuse and wipe it off usually less than 5 mins applying the wax..whats the appropriate "haze" setting before you can wipe it off? Im fixin to detail my buddys truck, a black f350 4door long bed, everything blacked out. Should I use the buffer or hand waz..and what kind? thanks for any input.

No it was some off of the shelf wax..

well theres your problem :D

The thing to remember is that if you are seeing swirls theres nothing the wax is going to do for that. You need to polish out swirls as wax doesn't do anything to correct them.

Also where/when you apply wax will play a big factor. You will tend to get streaking and uneven color if you apply waxes to a hot surface so wax in the garage or the shade whenever possible and make sure the paint is cool to the touch if at all possible.

Done right... SHR and MP will remove ALL swirls and haze. But on a truck that large it's literally a two day ordeal at least. Perfection takes time.

If all you want is to wax something Americana is great.

Lets start from the beginning. I noticed in some of the other posts you mentioned that you used an off the shelf wax. I suggest that if you are serious about detailing get on the Adams site and order the proper products to do the job. If you can afford it get a complete kit. The Adams Duel Action kit will do what you want. You mention that you have not really waxed with a buffer before. You need a Porta Cable buffer (part of the kit) as it will not harm/burn the paint. If you are not a professional, never try a high speed buffer. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Step one is a good bath for the car/truck followed by clay. Next an application of Swirl & Haze Remover, followed by the Fine Machine Polish and finished with a coat of the Super Machine Wax.

If you watch the video's as suggested you can get the results you want.

If you can not go with the complete kit, then I suggest that you purchase the Swirl & Haze Remover, Revive Polish and the Buttery Wax. All of these products will work great by hand. You will have to work harder with these verses the items in the kit, because the kit has the pc buffer. I started with the hand application products only because when I was first made aware of the Adams products that was all he offered.

Anything you buy, whichever way you go, you won't go wrong. All of Adam's products are top notch and he and his staff are the best.

Ok..heres a stupid question..if I use the swirl and haze remover then polish then wax..wont that just leave more swirls i have to go back and try and get out.?

Why would polishing and waxing leave MORE swirls?? Polishing will REMOVE swirls and waxing won't add any new ones so at what point did you think you'd be introducing more swirls??

If its never been clayed or wax you need more than just revive polish. The paint will be heavily contaminated and likely very swirly as it has no protection on it. A complete detail including claybar, multiple stages of polish, and wax will be what it needs.

Really it seems that you have a lot of questions that would be cleared up by watching the instructional videos and reading some other threads on the forum. I highly suggest you take the earlier advice that was offered and take some time to watch the videos.... all of us here are willing to help you as much as needed, but it would do you a world of good to first watch the videos and get a better grasp on the process rather than just asking all the questions here. :2thumbs:

Listen to Dylan, he knows what he is talking about. As I stated as well as other, watch the videos on Adams site. Also Post some pictures of your buddies truck and you will get some excellent advice. Make sure you have good lighting on it so all the trouble areas show.

if you have swirls u gonna need the pc

but adams hand waxes are the easiest in the industry to use IMO

Not sure how they could get any easier... Buttery is a breeze and Americana you let sit for 5 minutes and remove...
