blackberrypilot
The plane has been sitting in the sun for 5 years... it really needs new paint which will cost plenty, probably $150k+ I'm not sure what I'll have to use to break this oxidation. Just washing it broke my back... I wish I would have taken pictures of the dirty wheel wells. APC + VRT/Water (50/50) works well.

GXPaycheck
N59AJ. Hey AJ, I didn't know you had an airplane. That G2 is a little old. Time to upgrade! The worst part of polishing an aircraft is doing the bottom of the wings. It's an arm killer. And the Gulfstream has a LOT of wing Have fun with that one, Jeff. You at Lakefront or Armstrong? Superdutytd
Please tell me you have a rotary, theres no way I would tackle that with a PC. I think airplanes are gelcoat are they not?
Chewy
The worst part of polishing an aircraft is doing the bottom of the wings. Nah... Just flip it upside down... Heck it's a plane isn't it? I'm thinking if you can afford a Gulfstream then you can afford a 150,000 dollar paint job and you sure as heck fire can afford a buff job. Keep us up to date! Doug123
Imagine a pallet of clay bars, a pallet of detail spray. What a huge job. Get a dozen guys with claybars, DS, and baggies and have at it. If he puts an Adams finish on that plane at the quality you would a car, I wonder if it would slide through the air better, less drag? Sure would be shiny. Definitely an environment for MSW. blackberrypilot
This plane is in horrible condition, so for a wash, polish, wax + brightwork the price is $6,500. The brightwork is worth $2,500 by itself. There is no clearcoat, gel coat is gone. Paint is chipping in many areas, except the bottom portion of the wings. The brightwork will require heavy duty compounds to cut the years of oxidation, so #7 with a high speed rotary is my only option there. Oh and the plane is a G3, not a 2. blackberrypilot
Pure paint, the protective layer is gone... whatever it was, it may have been clearcoat. This plane is getting ready for sale, therefore is needs whatever it can get.
jkpell
Ok I am confused, boats have gelcoat and planes have paint right...? Gelcoat is a resin based pigment that is sprayed first in the mold. Airplanes are made of metal that is painted or a fabric over a wood frame, has gelcoat been used am I never heard of it?
694doorbird
True, aircraft just get paint.

Guess I didn't look close enough at the windscreen. Looked like a 2B with a hush kit. Good luck with it! You definitely have your work cut out for ya! blackberrypilot
Airplanes are clearcoated or gelcoated since many are fiberglass. No airplanes are wood anymore, except maybe some kit planes.
