American Made

I received a copy of this today in an email. A reason why I like Adam's Car Care Products. MADE IN USA.

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American ..

Good idea .. . . one light bulb at a time . . . .

Check this out . I can verify this because I was in Lowe's the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments . They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking ..

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job . So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track . Let's get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy . I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... nowI have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything ..

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets . I wasin the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brandlabeled, "Everyday Value . " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats -they were the same except for the price ..

The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio .

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here ..

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets . ... . yep, you guessed it,Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada .. The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

(We should have awakened a decade ago ... . .. . . . )

Let's get with the program . . . .. help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U . S . A ..

I went to Lowe's to get a few plumbing fittings that I needed to finish a plumbing job that I am doing. Would you believe out of all the fittings 75% was made in China (but had offices in North Carolina), the remaining 25% was made here in the USA.

Just think.............if we all paid more attention and bought things that were ONLY made in the USA, we would really put a bite in our unemployment problem.

The president is proposing a high speed rail system across the country to help put people back to work. Well, lets start with US made steel! Get those steelworkers back to work and give the little guy a chance at a decent living again.

Yes, I'm a retired steelworker, and our steel mills in my town are shut down.

Great idea. I generally try to buy American when possible/feasible, but I also realize that other purchases, such as my VW, for instance, create jobs here as well. For instance, VW/Audi of America has their US headquarters right here in the DC area, and that's a lot of jobs. And all successful car dealers, from Acura to Toyota, create lots of local jobs. Sure, some of the profit from my buying a VW goes to Germany, but they're an ally and their having a strong economy helps us, too.

All that said, I DON't like the idea of all our money going to countries like China, as they're just awful to their own people, the environment, and they most certainly are working hard to dominate the world.

Out here in California the State imports steel from China to build the new Oakland Bay Bridge. Guess what? The delivery by ship is delayed and the construction cost is then increased by millions ! WTF is going on ??

I'm proud of myself now... I went out and bought a new couch. My wife and I went out to buy an ALL leather L shaped couch. No vinyl on this one. We found a great place across the river that sold Omnia furniture.http://www.lifestylesfurniture.com/catalog.php3?category=0000000001

It's made in the USA (cali).

You get what you pay for and you do pay more for stuff from here in most cases.

Great post! We have lost complete industries to foreign competition (at least I'm not aware of any US made televisions), so we need to protect what we have. Fair trade is one thing, mostly what we have is not fair trade. I'm most aware of the auto industry, and I try to avoid places that are foreign dumping grounds (Harbor Freight with all the foreign made, yet American sounding brands), but this shows you need to read everything.

One year my wife was buying me some ratcheting wrenches and there were two brands side by side. My wife wasn't sure which I would like so she asked my son. He had no clue either, but looked at the label and said, "buy these, they're made in America".

We just bought new living room furniture in November. Lane. Made in Georgia.

This is a great thread to get the word out about what products are actually made in this country. Maybe if we learn the names, we'll be more conscious of what we're buying and check the labels. :patriot:

I try to buy everything made in America if I can. I am a Union Electrician and Pride in America and pride in a job well done are instilled in us as apprentices. That was 25 years ago, but the thoughts are still in my daily life. The problem is, as Americans, we sell our souls to save a buck. Rarely, if ever looking at the big picture. Home Depot, Lowes and the dreaded Wal-Mart are loaded with foreign crap. This is a great thread and I hope all of us spread the word and remember it when times are good and bad.

And another thing. Right after we bought the furniture, our washing machine died (Maytag). Piece of junk. Wasn't even 4 years old. So we shopped around and decided on Speed Queen. Made in the USA,and yes it cost a little bit more, BUT it was the ONLY one that came with a full 3 year warranty. All the rest came with 1.

So look for Speed Queen for your appliances. USA all the way!

There is no American made cars any more these days, most parts are made over seas and other Countries. U got to love or goverment for kicking us Americans to the curb.

Wow, maybe you were tired, or typed that without thinking, or maybe you are misinformed.

There still are American made cars, they may not be 100% American parts, but it is easy to determine "domestic" content on a vehicle.

GM and Ford have the best average percentage domestic content (around 70-80%), and it varies by model & even trim. Toyota actually does pretty good on some of their US manufactured models, and on the average have more domestic content, than say Hyundai which only averages 16% domestic content.

just BSing around ;) I did come across this info.

Look at the first digit of the VIN#. A '1' is built in the US of

more than 70% domestic parts, '2' Canada, '3' Mexico, '4' only

assembled in the US but of more than 70% domestic parts and '5'

assembled in the US of less than 45% domestic parts. The vast

majority of GM vehicles sold in the US, about 80%, are a '1' or

'2' some to a lessor extent '3.' A few Japanese vehicles sold in

the US, particularly Hondas and the Toyotas built in the

GM/Toyota California plant, have a '1,' but the majority are '2'

'5' or 'J' made in japan

at least I'm not aware of any US made televisions

TV's are a very strange market and industry... many components for most flat panel displays are still made here in the US then shipped abroad to be assembled or added to other parts before they are assembled into the whole TV.

I know NEC has a glass manufacturing operation somewhere near LA. LG still builds some of their processors here for their LCD displays, thats primarily a carryover from when they bought out Zenith and the HD parts were already built here. The fact is that we make many parts of the TV's, but the sales dollars all go to foreign manufactures.

Vizio (the cheap-o units sold at costco) are actually assembled here, but the parts are almost all chinese. I believe the assembly plant is actually in Irvine.
