70'sChevyGirl
I was watching Dangerous Drives and the Colorado Million Dollar Highway 550 was on. I was getting chills watching it. 2 lane road with No guard rails, No shoulder and No place to stop. It looks like a very beautiful drive but I don't know if I could take that route because it has big cliffs and some of them drop over 400 ft. straight down!! The route is only about 25 miles long but it looks very scary to me. Has anyone ever driven this route?? If so, tell me how you felt knowing that if you or an oncoming driver screwed up and went over the center line it could be tragic. I wonder how many times that Adam has traveled that route?

whiterp199
I saw that as well. It immediately went on my must drive before I die list. I also have the Tail of the Dragon, The whole Pacific Coast Highway, and the Trans Alaskan Highway.
IowaEmt1991
I saw that too...I will not be driving it anytime soon lol
Chewy
I saw that as well. It immediately went on my must drive before I die list. I also have the Tail of the Dragon, The whole Pacific Coast Highway, and the Trans Alaskan Highway. I've done the dragon in both a car and a bike... Fun but the Cherohala skyway is more fun IMO. Video of 550:burnout: It'd be a BLAST!

694doorbird
I've done the dragon in both a car and a bike... Fun but the Cherohala skyway is more fun IMO. Video of 550:burnout: It'd be a BLAST! Looks like a fun drive. However, it's very mild compared to the Hana Highway on Maui. Most of the road is barely 2 lanes wide, blind corners, one lane bridges, runs along the coast. My wife and I traveled it several years ago, once in the day light and back at night. That was scary!! I'll have to try to find some of the video we took and post it. NightMare Silverado
I love roads like that. A perfect day for me is a 200 mile cruse down hwy 1 or a nice drive out to the lake narrow blind corners;)
03silvss
i was just going to say the hana road is way worse we drove it last year to the seven sacred pools, talk about a road the locals drive it at like 60 mph hahaha its crazy

Memphis Senior
About 3-4 years ago, my roommate and I were on a road like that somewhere in Wyoming or South Dakota I think. We were in his 35' Winnebago motor home. Towing his Honda CRV. Only we were on the side with the drop offs. Right in the middle of nowhere we ran into "road under construction" signs. Shortly after that we found ourselves on about 8-10 miles of "gravel road." Drop offs of several hundred feet on my side of the coach and the road constantly shifting under us from the weight of the coach. Don't think we got much above about 15 MPH on that stretch of road. Talk about a white knuckle ride.:help:
Adam
You should see my driveway lol Hellooooooo?????!!!!!! Video please??????!!!! There is also a road from Leadville to Aspen, Colorado, and it's also a sketchy one. Closed for much of the winter, it's called the Independence Pass: It rivals HWY 1 in Big Sur, CA for beautiful drives. 70'sChevyGirl
Neat videos Adam. I think I could travel on the California road just not that Million Dollar road in Colorado. I need guard rails. I wish we had scenery like that in MI. All we have is alot of water.
Superdutytd
The Hana Hawaii isn't THAT bad. I also drag my enclosed snowmobile trailer up and down snow covered roads like that the originally mentioned one. Guess I've just become accustomed to being on the edge of death while driving

D Baize
The Tail of the Dragon is awesome, like to try some of those roads featured here!!!! I also liked driving up Highway 23 along the coast of lower Michigan, a very scenic relaxing drive.
