Oylmpics, anybody watching?

Wow, a lot going on all ready. The U.S. has four medals already. We are in first place in the medal count. it is still early on but hopefully the trend continue. The sliding track is crazy. One person died in a crashed this morning. They moved all of the starts down in order to slow thing down.

I am anxiously awaiting the Curling! Here's a couple of photos from World Championship of Curling that was held in Lowell, MA back in 2006.

 

 

 

In the photo below....me, a few of my buddies, my uncle, some random barfly, and Pete Fenson (the guy double fisting)....Skipper of the 2006 US Olympic Curling Team. How many other sports you know that you can drink the night away with the "athletes" after the main event? We partied with the entire 2006 Olympic team. All real nice guys.

I've been watching a bit. Not usually a big fan of the Olympics but I think NBC's doing a really good job this year. And this years's crop of athletes really strike me as good, positive young men and women – it's great to see them have this opportunity shine.

 

Very sad about that 21 year old luger. I saw the video on the news and it was just painful/shocking... so sad. (note to everyone: out of respect for the athlete and his family, please don't post it in this thread -- it's already been exploited enough elsewhere).

We watched some of the mens short track skating and some of the womens downhill skiing. I forget what it was named though. That had to be really hard on their knees going over all those bumps plus two jumps.

I watched the Opening Ceremony so far.

 

Pretty amazing the things they can do with lasers and computers.

 

Go USA...especailly the Hockey team.

 

Pretty sad about the Bobsledder that lost his life. I am glad they fixed up the track to hopefully prevent that from happening again.

Here's a question. On the scoring, why are two of the scores "blued" out? If there are 7 scores, 5 are white and 2 are blue.

I'm not 100% sure, but sometimes they drop the highest and the lowest scores and then average the rest, don't they?

I'm trying to watch it, but NBC is already screwing it up and giving horrible coverage, at least for the west coast. We're the same time zone as the games but they're still showing us everything tape delayed to hit the 7-11 pm time slot. I want to see it live, not an hour later after ESPN and other sites have already given me the results. On top of that, in the morning and part of the afternoon they're airing infomercials instead of games. I really didn't want to watch the USA-China hockey game. Finding out about the new snuggie or what ever crap they're pushing is much more entertaining.
