Scratches in boat gel-coat

JSparks

Question

Just like the title says. My dad just purchased a used Ranger boat and there are some scratches in the gel-coat. And ideas on the process for getting them out? The gel-coat is over metal flake if it makes a difference. I can obtain pics if necessary. Thanks in advance for the help.

I will give the PC a try. What pad/compound combo would you suggest?

Orange with SHR and a spritz of DS to start with. Yellow pad may be needed but start with less and go to yellow if needed.

Not having seen the scratches means we're running blind.

A PC will work on gelcoat but it's not overly effective IMO at taking out scratches.

A rotary which builds up heat which aids in cutting will be a better choice. Just keep it moving or you'll burn the gelcoat.

I would try the least aggressive way first though, which in this case IS the PC.
