Pc 7424xp hd

hawaiianstyle

Question

Ok, there is a online place that's offering a HD PC 7424XP: This is what they are saying that the HD stands for:

The HD model has a heavy duty 16 gauge, 25 foot power cord hardwired into the polisher. The longer cord is more convenient than an extension cord and it is gauged to deliver maximum power to the polisher for safe, efficient operation

Should I get this one instead of the standard PC7424XP? I guess this would eliminate the extension cord rule or make it worse. What's all your folks take on this?

Chris how long of a cord did you add? Im thinking in 25'.. Got an pics?

I put a 50' 14 ga. cord, I bought a extention cord from Lowe's and cut the end off and wired it in the same way that the factory one was.You have to buy a couple connectors, its not hard. :2thumbs:

Are you talking about Autogeek's offer of the HD model PC ?

If so, than I went that route thinking it was made by Porter Cable from the factory like that.

I'm pretty sure it wasnt, becuase I could have done a better job assembling it my self. The cord is nice and secured well, but when i got mine the outer casing had a hairline crack in it, and it was pretty roughed up and scratched. on top of the case not fitting back together as nice as I would have expected. Once i saw the craftsmanship (i'm a union systems mechanic by trade, so i'm very picky about small details) I knew there was no way it left a factory like that.

I suggest you save your money, get the factory PC, and the proper extension cord. While the HD PC is nice, you will likely still need an extension cord if you want to work comfy and safely while moving around the car. again, while the extra cord is nice I still prefer about 5 more feet of cord anyway. which defeats the purpose.

Autogeek is a good company and my case may be completely isolated, but i'm about positive that Porter Cable is not doing the modification, which could raise more than a few concerns. although i would imagine PC would still completely warranty everything, considering Autogeek is a huge supplier of there products.

hope this post helps.
