Couple of Questions

StormChaser

Question

Ok, so I have recently joined the Adam's band wagon and I am impressed with everything I have.

Now I am getting my 2nd order this week and having a detail meet this coming weekend. I have read over ALL of the threads that related to the following questions. I have also read the step by step instructions that is on the PDF form so I have a good idea of what to do. But I just want to run by you guys/gals my plan and see if you think it's ok and/or should I do something different. Thank you in advance for reading and providing input! :)

Ok, so I have the following supplies: (since the detail kit has changed since I bought it)

1) apc

2) car wash

3) vrt

4) revive polish

5) swirl & haze

6) buttery wax

7) detail spray

8) americana wax.

9) clay bar

I also have 2 of the white towels, 1 of the blue waffle towel, 1 white waffle drying towel, wash pad, 2 yellow hex pads, one red applicator, 2 square foam blocks, and the foam flip pad.

So here is what I was thinking (and yes, most of this is on that cheat sheet thing) but I am meticulous and want to make sure I have it right in my head. Plus the Americana isn't on that thing.

Clean wheels with APC

wash the car with the car wash

use clay bar as needed

use swirl and haze remover

use revive polish

buttery wax

and then americana.

----

here is where I am unsure. If I use americana do I really need the buttery wax??

Also which pads to I use for the revive polish, swirl/haze, and buttery wax?? It's my understanding an applicator comes in with the americana so I should be able to figure that one out.

And should I wipe everything off in between each product: revive polish, swirl/haze, buttery wax, and americana?

Ok for the Americana wax, I have seen folks say they use one coat and some say three coats. What is the most accurate # of coats to use?

Please note: I am going to be doing all of this with just regular applicators. I do not have a :pc:YET....But for the time being I NEED to detail my truck. :) We have one TBSS and 2 g8's so far. Trying to get more involved but that's still to be seen.

I really appreciate your help and again I know there are LOTS of threads on the above topics but I couldn't really get an accurate idea of what I should do. And she hasn't been waxed in over six months.

The people above have provided a LOT of good input, with which I agree. :)

ALSO: I would for sure clean the tires with APC. But, your wheels are another matter. APC is potent stuff. Maybe one of the wheel maestros can chime in here on this part. If you are not sure, just wash the wheels with car shampoo, and deal with them at the next detail session when you gather more info... Better to be safe at this point.

If it has not been clayed yet, be ready to clay it. Do the 'baggie over the hand' test on the washed and dried finish to tell you if you need to clay (most likely you will). Getting all those little tiny bumps and micro-crud off the clear coat really helps build the shine, no kidding.

Yea he has a new jeep and I have been trying to get him to step away from the dish soap! Yes he seriously told me he uses dawn every time!

Ya well when I got my new job at a different Fire Department. The first time we washed a truck my Captain used TIDE. After we were done I was like "So wheres the wax?". They all asked why haha I felt a little out of place.

The Buttery Wax would make a nice base coat for the Americana.

The color of the product is the color pad to use. For Example, Buttery Wax is Yellow so use the Yellow Pad. Polish is Blue so use the Blue side of the Oval Pad.

Another question. Do I apply the polishes and wax in the same type of motion as if I had a PC? Meaning do I do small circles from right to left and then up and down??? I've seen a picture that Dylan posted with it looking angled after the stuff was applied.

I always apply straight back and forth.

You are correct in saying no need for Buttery if you are using Americana. For Revive use the blue side and for SHR use orange side. And yes Americana has its own red pad.

Some wipe off SHR before going to Revive some don't. I usually do so I can see if I corrected my paint before going on to polish.

If I missed anything give me a shout! Have Fun!

I thought they did away with the Americana red pad? Mine came with a yellow under the lid. :( I was a little disappointed.
