how often do you polish?

IMADreamer

Question

I hope this isn't a really dumb question but last month I learned I'm not waxing enough so now I'm wondering if I'm polishing enough or too much? lol

So here's the story, I've only had to use S&H on a couple spots really where I had some bad scratches, but I've used the white pad and FMP on the whole car atleast twice, and in some spots a couple more times. While I've been using the PC for a good year or so I'm still pretty new at it so I'm wondering exactly how much can I polish before I start running low on clear coat? I assume that unless a big scratch develops I shouldn't have the use the S&H ever again, but I know an occasional polishing really makes the paint on my sunburst orange pop so I'm just wondering when I need to be thinking about polishing.

Thanks.

I'd imagine that the answer is "polish when it needs it" and "FMP is so mild, you're in little danger of getting through the clear in your lifetime" BUT, I am interested in the official answer.

If you are constantly seeing swirls, you might need to reevaluate your washing steps to make sure that you are not prematurely introducing swirls that can be avoided. Obviously a daily driver, by their very nature, don't stay pristine, so thats another thing that could lead to you needing to polish more often.

It's my daily driver so it gets those little imperfections that come out of no where. Swirls haven't been a huge problem since I joined this site but I still get them after a seasons worth of washing. :(
