VRT all over my truck, why?

fortplainman

Question

From the video sent by adams, it says VRT's new formula is resistant to water and will not run. well there was a thunderstorm last night and i woke up to my tailgate/bumper/doors with VRT streaks from the plastic i had dressed over the weekend for a truck show. dont get me wrong i loved the way it worked on the tires, it was ok on the plastic. i just need someone to comment on why it would do this after the video stated it would not run. ill use some detailer to clean it up when i get a chance. i loved all the products i had purchased and used(claybar, buttery wax, undercarriage spray, detailer, window cleaner, all purpose cleaner, vrt, waterless wash, wash soap, towels, applicators), this is the first problem i have run into.

I had this happen as well... You put it on too thick. Try wiping off the excess with a MF towel after letting it sit a bit to soak in.

You don't need much for protection.

ill try those foam pads then. i mainly did it with a little drop of it, rubbed it around, and then applied it. then i took a clean part of the MF and rubbed the area around again to take any access stuff off.

dylan, its from the tailgate plastic cover, tailgate handle, rear bumper plastic, door handles, and mirrors. i did dress the tires probably 4 times with a thick coating of the VRT with the tire applicator. they seem to be fine right now. i saw your video you posted and mine does the same thing i tested it. must be i applied it wrong. i guess thats what happens when you try new products haha. live and learn.

only thing i have to do now because i cant wash it(where i live cant hand wash vehicles) only thing is the power spray car washes. i have some waterless wash but the truck is way too hot to use that right now.

hmm i applied the stuff with a MF towel and went over it again, that should have negated runoff.

Well if you applied it with a MF towel then you are applying too much. The foam pads allow the excess to soak up a little bit. Try using a pad I think you will see a different result. Be sure to clean the plastic really good with APC after you wash the truck and see what happens.

i dont have sound at work, but i take it the one on the left was the new formula? looked the same as my bottle, but ill take pictures tonight of how it ran on my tailgate.

The one with the BLACK Cap is the New Formula.

Like was suggested, knock down the excess with a dry towel.

Also you MUST clean all surfaces completely before applying it. The product will bond with bare plastics, but if you were using old VRT in the past or another dressing it doesn't stick. Doing a wipe down with a diluted APC mixture PRIOR to application will remedy this issue.

I wiped off the mirror with APC before making the video, to remove bugs and to remove the shine from the VRT that was already on the mirror.

hi geoff whats up umm i would agree with the other guys that you may have put it on to thick but also if it was a hard driving thunderstorm I dont care how good the product is sometimes mother nature wins lol im sure if it rains hard enough and pummels the truck that even the new vrt will streak.

+1 for "putting it on too thick"...I just recently did my soft tonneau cover and it rained the next day (and every day since) with no streaking on my white Colorado.

I put a streak of SVRT diagonal across a black foam block and worked it into 1/6 of the cover...then moved to the next section...then flipped the block and buffed it down...then I repeated the entire process. Excellent water repelling and no streaking.

Nice video. The new VRT worked great on all my tires, no matter what the brand was. Worked great on all black plastic on my Ford Expedition. It ran on the window frames on my wifes Hyundai. The window frames were clean before I put it on, three days later it streaked all the way down the window after a rain storm.

Tomorrow morning Im going to do half my mirror in the old bottle I have and the other half in the new bottle I just got. Then Im going to spray it with water like Adam did in the video. I would assume that if it was the new formula it would act like it did in the video. I'm also going to compare color.

Maybe I'll make my own video.

---------------UPDATE----------------

I got bored so I made my own video (like the AJ ) in my garage by myself at Midnight in 100 degrees. (Bare with this is the first video I've ever made EVER, Im more of a picture guy)

I ordered the Wheel and Undercarriage Kit.... it says and shows Super VRT. I would hope thats what I was shipped and not just an old bottle laying around. I would be happy to buy the old formula at a discounted price.

Same bottle same sticker.

actually hold on, im watching the video now, it looks to me as it doesnt have that yellow tint like the new "super VRT" was said to have. i was told that i would be getting the new product, to me it seems like the old one maybe with a "new formula" sticker on it. heres a picture:

no thats understandable. i have it in front of me right now, it is in the old bottle, but it has a "new formula" stick on sticker(musta had old bottles still before the "super" badge was implemented).

Have the same bottle from a order I just got 4 days ago. Worried to try it now since the weather in Illinois is so unpredictable. I dont want it to run off after being applied 3 days prior and get all over my paint.

Geoff - I know it sounds asinine; but are you sure you have the new formula? The new VRT formula has a sticker on the bottle "new water resistant formula."

The running that you might be seeing could be either an older formula VRT or plain and simple dirt build up in crevices that left the appearance of "streaking." I have had the SVRT formula on my plastics for a month with no streaking what-so ever.

Don't forget if your dissatisfied with the product, Adam's will refund you 110%.
