Strange "dirt" on car??

smankins

Question

My family just got back from a reunion and we took our pickup and our Enclave. Today we also received our foam gun so I decided to try it out on the car which looked like it was just covered with dirt. The gun worked great (Gilmour Foamaster II) but the "dirt" spots would not dissolve and in fact would not come off easily when I used the microfiber wash mitt. (I did not have any Adam's car wash so I used some Meguiar's Gold Class car wash and conditioner I had in the garage). I then had to really scrub hard for a while on each spot to get it to come off. I also tried claying the spots after washing, tried APC on spots, and even some Tar and Bug remover. I used a microfiber sponge/bug scrubber and had to really work at each spot. I finally got the hood area cleaned but I need to find a better way to do this since these spots are all over the car.

This is a new car with 3,000 miles. I did get some Adam's goodies in right before we left and had a chance to try the claying, FMP, and MSW on one side of the hood before we went to the reunion. This made these funny dirt spots clean off fairly easy today but I still had to work a little. On the rest of the car where I had not clayed, waxed, etc. they are a real challenge. I thought they would wash right off! I included some pictures of the spots. Any suggestions on what it might be and how to get them off easier?

I also took my pickup and a camper and I don't see these spots on that vehicle so maybe it had something to do with where the car was parked (at a lake cabin) compared to where the truck was at an RV spot. Then again, the truck is black and maybe I just have not noticed yet. I am mystified.

Since you have washed and clayed the spots, try some Revive or FMP if you have a pc. See if that works. Good luck!

Yes, I have a PC and I did use FMP on the hood but I had already scrubbed off the spots. I will try the FMP immediately after claying on the other areas and see what that does. Thanks for the response.

You don't park near trees that have berries on it do you??? They look like stains in the paint right?

The car got these spots either on the road to/from Possum Kingdom lake in Texas or while it was parked at the lake. There were really no trees to park under where the car was but one night a very strong wind blew in ahead of a front and that could have blown something on the car from some trees and shrubs around there. I don't remember if there were any berries in any of the foliage where we stayed. My pickup does not have these spots and it was parked near our RV about 50 yards from the cabin where the car was parked. I don't think they came from the road since the car traveled the same route as I did in the pickup/RV combo.

I would rather think they are berry stains than blood stains (Ugh!). Either way they are tough to clean out. Thanks for the help.

Did you have any of those little spinner things that come from trees on your paint, or any leaves? I know tree debris can sometimes stain things badly.

There were no leaves or tree debris on the car that I noticed. I am not sure what you mean by the little spinner things, though.

The little helicopter things that sometimes fall from trees, with a seed in them. Sometimes they can stain things.

I did not notice anything like that in the air.

I did not get a chance to try anything with the car tonight since my wife came home late, I thought we were going right back out, etc. Maybe I can try something tomorrow.

Just a quick update. I decided to wait on the polishing after I read more in the forum and found out about taping and using VRT before polishing, etc. I also had a trip planned to Corpus Christi and returned a couple of nights ago. I am also going to wait and get the 4" pads to use since some areas on this car with the spots are narrow.

Anyway, after getting back from Corpus Christi, the beach, the salt air, the road trip, etc. I gave the car a good wash and it appears some of the spots are coming off and/or becoming smaller. I don't know why, possibly because of the washing?? I also had received my second shipment of Adam's products and it included glass cleaner. After using this around the car the glass cleaning rag was pretty damp with cleaner and I just rubbed some of the remaining spots for grins and some of them came right off! I guess whatever is on there is wearing down.

Great to hear Scott!

Do you have any APC? Maybe try that on a spot, but you have to rinse it off right away.

I tried APC on it originally (see initial post) but I have not tried it lately. That might cause these spots to wipe right off now. Thanks.

those are seeds from a maple tree-they can stain like a muther if they land on a damp car-or if the car is not moved-the dew can help them "bleed" on your paint. I would get it asap so it doesnt eat thru your clear.
