Hardest Color to detail

scs02C5

Question

I was detailing my wife's car today, which is white - and was noticing how hard it is to detail. Sure dirt is easier to notice after you wash, the missed spots jump right out, but I was having the hardest time noticing scratches and flaws and wax's. I did FMP and it was almost impossible to see what I was doing. So I was wondering what is the hardest color to detail in your opinion?

Depends on how you think of the question.

No doubt black is hardest to get to perfect because you SEE everything. But that also makes it easy to know WHERE to detail. Everything pops out at you.

I know my White Colorado and Medium Grey Metallic Vette are difficult to detail because its harder to see the product on the surface and harder to see what needs correction.

Hope thats as clear as mud for everyone. :D:willy:

Metallic silver is ridiculously difficult to find swirls without the right lighting! Black is definitely the biggest struggle when it comes to making everything perfect because black shows swirls like a motha. If you can give black paint that nice wet look, you can do just about any other car.

All dark colors are tough, but black takes the #1 most difficult color for me. That's why we like to use them as demonstration vehicles! If we can make black perfect, we can make any color perfect.

Easiest, in my opinion: #1: Silver #2: Pearl White #2 Champagne/ 'Arizona Beige"

My $0.02:thumbsup:

So what about a medium shade metallic silver? Is there shine potential on a color like that? I ask because my friend just bought a 2010 nissan titan in that color and I was thinking about doing a detail for him [not for free of course] but I don't want to do it if there isnt much potential with that color, i would SHR,FMP, and MSW. dont mean to hijack just wanna know since we're on the subject

IMO grey/silver is the hardest, my paint is what VW calls United grey which is a metallic color and is so darn hard to find any swirls, I cant really see any swirls in direct sun and the halogen does a so so job in bringing them out. I have to like look at the car in particular angles just to find swirls. Which I know they are there, just cant find them.

The whites and silvers are the hardest to see scratches which does make getting them out difficult, but to me they are the easiest to do because of that. It you can't see it unless you apply 2000W at just the right angle, there is no point in fixing it.

Black, and other dark colors, show scratches and swirls in complete darkness and requires 100% perfection to look tip-top.

Amen to that Adam! I just finished 6 hours of garage fun on my wife's Silver TBSS. No polishing, just wash, clay bar, (nearly the last of Barry's) sealant and two coats of Americana. If she hadn't just taken it to go shopping I'd go take some pics. It looks marvelous!

BTW: I love the ease of use of the new In & Out Spray, a real time saver.

Lots of light is your friend here - Bright sunlight or some halogens. My wife has a silver Accord and it is difficult to find the defects while you are working in it. Mind you they always seem easy to find 5 minutes after you've waxed it!
