grzfiend
now i know clear coats fail chip peel flake etc. my question is do the wear away without ever being wet sanded or machine polished?
XQIZT
Clear coat will chip/crack/peel/fail under many circumstances...Baking in the sun is one way. Poor surface prep or cheap factory work can do it too. I would say that by caring for the paint with wax etc. prolongs the life of quality clear. Chris@Adams
now i know clear coats fail chip peel flake etc. my question is do the wear away without ever being wet sanded or machine polished? I would say no, clear coat will not just wear away.IMHO!
Kustom_FX
I would say no, clear coat will not just wear away.IMHO! The only clears I have ever seen "wear away" were on cars in the desert climates. Im sure Foxxer has seen it.. over time driving in those conditions its like constant microscopic sand blasting. But Grz you live on the Atlantic Coast so your fine.. lol
XQIZT
on re-read: by "wear away" do you mean like how wax eventually "wears away"?...then I'd agree with everyone else. Clear won't just wear away...not in one lifetime anyway.

Ian6
if you take care of your paint and use quality products like adams then no it won't wear away or fail. here in texas there are cars all over the place that are faded and have damaged clear coats and it's because the paint was not protected from the sun, plain and simple
