Clear coat will chip/crack/peel/fail under many circumstances...Baking in the sun is one way. Poor surface prep or cheap factory work can do it too.

 

I would say that by caring for the paint with wax etc. prolongs the life of quality clear.

I would say no, clear coat will not just wear away.IMHO!

The only clears I have ever seen "wear away" were on cars in the desert climates. Im sure Foxxer has seen it.. over time driving in those conditions its like constant microscopic sand blasting.

 

But Grz you live on the Atlantic Coast so your fine.. lol

That's true, if your traveling for 1,000 miles far around the gulf, this is just a must have... you really don't want to have a sandblasted front.. :jester:

if you take care of your paint and use quality products like adams then no it won't wear away or fail. here in texas there are cars all over the place that are faded and have damaged clear coats and it's because the paint was not protected from the sun, plain and simple
