Back in black...and need your opinions...especially dylans

mellon

Question

First time polishing a car...and it just so happens to be black. Am i asking too much of the PC to remove these with a orange pad and SHR? I can't feel them all with my finger nail but there are a couple that just ever ever ever so slightly hang a nail on. From the body line up is **** near perfect. Lower half of the car obviously sees more abuse. But i would think these would come out. These pictures are after one pass.

This is behind the door jamb where i haven't touched yet...

with a GTO I would start with the yellow. but that is just me with my 100k+ PBM GTO

I don't recommend a yellow pad unless your not getting the results with the orange pad. No sense in over polishing if its not necessary.

Yeap SHR + Orange pad is where I would start judging from the pictures. Take your time and you'll have it looking better than new!

:iagree:

It may take more passes than you expect, but patience and persistent will payoff in an amazing Adam's shine.

An issue you might experience in those areas is lower polishing ability due to the fact, expecially that lower rocker panel, the large pads won't be able to make flush contact with the surface b/c its concave design.

I'd probably recommend hitting those areas with the 4" pads on the PC if you can't get good pad to paint contact w/ the 7.5" ones.

just hope the rest of the car isn't this bad, cause so far i'm a few orange pad passes in and its doin very little so i think im gonna have to move to the yellow pad. i hit the roof with 2 passes of the orange pad and its beautiful other than 2 little spots that for some reason won't even come out with a yellow pad. its like they are below the clear coat if you look at an angle into a halogen. the process will continue tomorrow...i hope the machine polish doesn't require this much work lol. hell i really hope the car was bad before i got it and not perfect. i've had it for two years and put a few small scuffs in it so i figured it would be a good time to use the PC that i bought and have let sit lol.

Mellon, I'm doing my black Corvette now and it is 100x worse than your car. I did 5 passes of SHR and 2 of FMP...Almost all of the scratches are out of my car. Do a couple more passes with the orange pad and see what it looks like. I'm going through the same thing you are now so I feel your pain. Also, on lower rockers I'm using the 4" spot pads. It makes life a lot easier. Just be patient and remember that a 100% paint correction doesn't happen over night.

Patience is your friend. I did a '06 Cadillac STS that was just destroyed by neglect, scratches were really bad in areas. I used the orange pad and patience, and all the scratches came out (this was the first time I used the PC and Adam's products.) I was very amazed on how well this stuff works and so was the owner of the car. Just make sure to do one area first to make sure you are getting the results you want before you move on to another panel. Good luck.
