Lessons from a newb for other newbs

Spent 8 hours detailing my Challenger yesterday as an Adam's newb. (see pics in the "cars" section) Here are my suggestions for anyone else who is planning on or has ordered the essentials kit and are ready to embark on this quest for the perfect shine.

 

The essentials kit is great but it includes several products you are going to want more of right off the bat.

 

More towels. I would (and now have) order extra MF polishing towels and another drying towel.

 

More detail spray. Go ahead and get the gallon, you are going to use a lot of it.

 

More car wash. You won't need more for your first wash but since you'll probably be washing weekly you will run out of it quickly enough so go ahead and get some more.

 

So those are what I would consider requirements. If your car has a lot of fine scratches and swirls and it going to need a lot of polishing then I would recommend getting the kit with the Porter Cable and the machine polishes/pads. My car wasn't real bad but doing it all by hand was a LOT of work!

 

Well worth the effort though.

Would have to agree. Especially the gallon of detail spray. I now spay my drying towel with detail before I wipe the car dry. If you do this you'll go through a ton of detail spray.

 

So, what did you use for your final layer? Looking good!

I used the Buttery Wax after having used the SHR and RP on the whole thing.

Nice work...and I 100% agree on the bulk products. Add APC to the list as well. You use it to clean your pads and applicators, and currectly, I will use it as a wheel cleaner, since I haven't got GWC yet.

 

And fear not, EVERY product you get will bring a HUGE smile to your face.

A black Challenger..oh how I love thee!! Good tips and agree 100% In fact I'm fixing to place a gallons combo pack order here real quick. I went through APC faster than anything so far.

Well the vacuum and blaster aren't Adam products, they just resell them. unless it has an Adam's logo on it, which I dont think it does because it would be read instead of black.
