Claying & Detail Spray, question.

Kingsford

Question

I have seen people do stuff a few different ways. My question is, when you clay a car and use the DS as a lube.... do you leave the DS on the car or wipe it off after you do each section?

If you leave it on, why and when do you remove it?

I've seen it both ways and I dont really know what is better and why.

Sorry I ask so many questions.

No problem bro that's why the forum is made. My questions are coming too. :patriot:

Well for me, I clay the desired area, after finishing the area I mist it with detail spray and wipe it off to check for spots that I've missed, althought I'm pretty sure that I didn't... All that moderate pressure makes it shine crazy.

Note: the car has been washed before claying, it looks like not.. It haven't been clayed for 1 whole year maybe more. We don't have garages like you guys do, just a shade were you put your car under.

Some people will even do a wash after the claying (cough Dylan cough), I assume to make sure that there isn't any little bit of loose impurity on the finish before they get out the PC. Of course, if you had seen his black truck up close (gorgeous black), you would know that his choice of techniques work well.

I wonder if the choice of 'wash after claying' is due to the level of contamination before claying (i.e. if the finish was really rough before, a wash after claying is a good idea)??

Comes down entirely to how anal you want to be and how dirty the finish was. If working on a car thats VERY heavily contaminated, so much so that your clay lube is turning brown - I think we've all had a car like that - then I recommend a post clay washing to reduce the risk of any nastiness on the paint becoming an issue while you polish.

If its your own, well maintained, and only marginally dirty then additional washing after claying isn't needed.

See I do the same... I clay and then wipe off the DS. But I'm seeing some people just leaving the DS on the paint after they finish the section.

I leave the window and doors too, no need to worry... your going to wash the truck anyways.
