StormChaser
Ok, some of you on the East coast pay attention to the news. I didn't realize there was a Hurricane brewing and hello...he's on our doorsteps! Anyway I am a weather freakazoid so pardon me but I love this stuff. Anyway latest and greatest up date is that it's definitely going to hit and it's supposed to be on the NC/VA border by 2pm Friday. If you want to track Earl...here you GO. floraneg
Good luck guys and stay safe. Being from New Orleans life revolves around the Tropics from June through November. After living through Katrina and seeing the destruction in both MS and LA, I know Mother Nature is not to be taken lightly. I see it is forecasted to be near shore as a CAT 4. Same category as Katrina. Don't let your guard down.
StormChaser
Definitely keep the guard UP. I went through four hurricanes in Florida....Charlie, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. Kicked my butt for sure. Cat 4 is nothing to forget about.

Kicked my butt for sure. Cat 4 is nothing to forget about. Totally agree. Not sure how homes are built in your part of the country, but down here, we have to drive wood pilings into the ground 40 to 50 feet deep and then pour our concrete slab on top of the pilings. I went to check on my friends house 3 days after Katrina hit, and could not find his house. The whole house was gone.... House and slab just gone. Come to find out, the storm surge was so bad, that it tore the slab away from the pilings and pushed it two blocks away. The entire two story house and a 10 inch thick concrete slab was pushed two blocks away. The destruction was unbelievable. Just when you though it couldn't get any worse, you turned down another street and it did. I feel sorry for those who do not have experience with hurricanes and think they can wait it out. Don't try it! Get out of Dodge!!!!

70'sChevyGirl
I hope everyone on the East Coast stays safe. I would not want to experience a hurricane after seeing all the previous ones on TV and seeing what type of total destruction it can do. I feel sorry for the people that lose their homes and those poor pets that are left behind to fend for themselves. What a way to ruin a holiday weekend. The way the winds are blowing we are suppose to only be in the mid-60s here.
Chewy
Be safe and DO NOT stick around if you don't have to. These are the times that I like the Midwest... Chris
DieselDude
These are the times that I like the Midwest... Chris Don't you have tornadoes out your way? I have been thru only 1 Hurricane (I have never seen so much rain) and 1 Tornado (I still remember the sound....sounded like a Train).

Doug123
Brandi, the folks near you that are really tough and always get hammered are those that live out on the Outer Banks . There IS a reason the houses are up on stilts. When in doubt, grab some clothes and cash, point the SS inland and punch it!

mc2hill
Stay safe everyone. We got the NE side of Charley back in 2004. Winds were 90+ and we had a micro-burst twist up a large oak tree in our backyard. We were huddled in a bathroom (only fully interior room) listening to the wind. The roof shingles sounded like someone shuffling a deck of card! Power was out from Friday night (11?) until Tuesday or Wednesday evening. If they tell you to leave, do so if you can. This reminds me I need to fill up the 5 gal gas can 'just in case'!.

We get warning or watches, but very seldom get more than high winds. Chris
