Hard Water Spots

boltsfan

Question

So... am I am at off site training this week and during a break I come out of the office building where the training is and notice that sprinklers have gone off and I have hard water spots covering the entire hood of my new 2011 Audi Q5 I bought last Saturday. Car baked in the sun for about 4-5 hours.

Needless to say... I am upset  . I take very good care of my cars (other is a black '09 MB C300 Sport) with Adams stuff and my cars are garaged at home and are parked under ground at work.

I tried clay bar then Swirl and Haze Remover and DS and no luck. I even got desperate and and tried 50\50 vinegar and water and still no luck.

I do not mind paying to have it fixed so does anyone know any good detailers in San Diego? What should I expect to pay?

I just placed an order with Adams today but only got DS, leather cleaner, wheel cleaner and VRT. If I need to get something else please advise.

Any help is appreciated...

:help:

Thanks!

Where can I get the Porter Cable locally as I don't see the PC sold separately on the Adam's site? Do I need the orange and white pads but no yellow?

The yellow pad may save some on the really bad spots; it would be a good purchase.

Check with Ashley on a PC, she may be able to help you. You may be able to get a PC locally, check for a tool supply place, not a DIY place. On the east coast Tools-Plus is a good supplier, not sure if there is a west coast equivalent.

i hope it is ok to say this on this forum. look at Griots Garage polisher. i have one and it is more powerful than the pc. also you get life time warranty on them. good luck.

After watching Junkman video... the only polisher I would ever buy is a PC 7424XP.

I watched my Dad take the paint off the family Oldsmobile by mistake 20+ years ago and I have been scared to touch a polisher ever since.

He actually did a decent job and I can't complain cause it was my fault anyway. He got rid of all the spots except in one small area that only anal people (like me) would even notice.

Give me excuse to get the PC! Thanks for the help guys (and girls).

Attaching a few pics of the new ride.

If it has swirls then I'll take it right back to the dealership. Have had some other minor (but annoying) issues as well... so I have the upper hand.

They offered teflon coating from 3rd party detailer for a ridiculous price when I signed finance paperwork that I of course declined. Hopefully the detailer knows how to use a PC.

I'll hopefully buy myself a PC 7424XP shortly...

Thanks for the info guys... I appreciate it.

II dropped off at the dealer this morning and claimed water spots have been there since I drove it off the lot and that they need to polish it. Much harder to see during the day but really noticeable under fluorescent lights in garage. Hopefully they will take care of it for me.

You're just gonna trade spots for swirls, unless the dealership really knows what they are doing.

A GOOD coat of wax will make water roll off more. If the car bakes in the sun after getting wet, you're going to need to wash the car to remove them though. Keeping the surface pristine is a never ending battle. Although, with proper care, your problems will be less severe.

I watched the Junkman vids this morning (that dude is funny). Where can I get the Porter Cable locally as I don't see the PC sold separately on the Adam's site? Do I need the orange and white pads but no yellow? I'll get some FMP as well. Wish I had known this prior as I just placed order with Adams yesterday morning (for other stuff) as my paint was being ruined at the same exact time.

Is there any way to help lessen the spots it it happens again? Does having teflon on paint help any? Just trying to be pro-active other than not parking next to sprinklers which is sometimes unavoidable.

Bummer Chris! Check out this video: http://www.adamspolishes.com/t-Videos_DVD5_10.aspx

I was at a Hampton Inn on a recent road trip, and came out to find my truck covered. Even parked far from the grass, bushes, etc, but the sprinkler was broken and got me!

Sorry, and water spots are curable!

I watched the video and had one quick question. Did you or someone on your staff finish the rest of her car? If so do you have any before and after pics?

Chris:

You'll be fine with the PC that Adam's offers. No worries about damaging the paint and it will bring your shine to a whole new level. You just cant move your hands fast enough to mimic the action of the PC. Check out the vids above and you'll see. :pc:

:iagree:

The PC with Adam's orange pad and SHR will fix this. It will cost less than paying another detailer to remove them, and you'll have the PC to use 'forever'.

You may have to go over the area several times (4-6 passes each time) to remove the water spots. Then FMP polish to clean it up. When you're done it will look better then when you drove it off the lot! :D

I was trying to remove by hand. Guess I need to buy a polisher and some pads...?

I have never used a polisher before. Is there any risk of damaging the paint on my car? Kinda nervous to do it on a car this only a few days old.

Will the Adam's pads work with any polisher?

For example:
