Kornercarver
I was cleaning out some old stuff this morning and came across some pictures of some dragsters taken in May 1968 at Alton Dragway. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing what dragsters looked like before the modern era.........

TR6speed
I sure remember those. I used to attend the races at US 30 Drag Strip outside of Chicago in the early 60's.

Doug123
Those were the days - - the engine would blow up and start on fire and the flames would go right back in the driver's face. And basically, you sit in those with the differential right between your knees, so if something goes... ouch At least the new ones have the driver in front of the engine... TR6speed
How do you burnout in those things... wow. It was usually the full quarter mile. The burnout of today was not done back then. They did burnouts, but not like today and the tire compound and size was totally different back then, so even with a burnout, they would still smoke the tires off the line. If you had a fuel car it would smoke the tires almost the entire quarter mile.
