  1. If it is indeed clear coat failure, not much. You can make it look better and slow it down, but when clear starts to go it will continue to go no matter what you do.

Wouldn't hurt anything to test a section. Clean it, clay it, then hit it with a machine using orange pads and paint correcting polish. Just hit a small area of it and see what it gets you. If the improvement is enough to justify it, keep going, and when you're done get a coat of protection on there to slow it down.

Still has me baffled as to why its happening in such a specific place and pattern. Usually failure looks a lot more random than that.

So....basically it sounds like I need to have it resprayed? The hood might be save able doing the process you described but that might be because its barley noticeable.

  2. Is it from the wheels on the dryer thing in the "auto wash"????  Not sure if thats the type of auto wash you are going through.  Sure looks like a consistent pattern.

Humm....I think your describing the thing that "lifts" as you go thru it and it drys. If so then no, this truck has never been thru one of those.

  3. Truck is outside at all times, I don't have a garage. I regularly hand wash and run it thru auto washes and hand wax it once a year I assume the truck was re sprayed at some time by the previous owner due to damage on the vehicle and I can see over spray in some areas but I don't know what all was resprayed.

This has happened with in the past 6 months....and is slowly getting worse. I noticed it starting on the back of the hood by the windshield as well....

  4. I'm fairly certain that black truck needs a serious clay bar and polish as well.

Yes it needs both badly.....neither have been done in the two years I've owned it.

I'm curious, your first pic, was this before or after the rinseless?

If it was before, then there is no doubt in my mind that the rinseless caused any swirls.

If it was after, then it may be due to grit gaurd/not enough water/technique.

Either way i am going out on a limb and assuming your truck is heavy on the swirls prior to the rinseless wash.  Time to invest in a machine polishing kit, and let the addiction begin.  Eventually you get to the point where you aren't seeing dirt on your car, you are seeing fine spiderwebbing (swirls) in the paint.  I'm still learning and have about a 95% correction on the G8, however as a winter driver, the snow brushes have been had on the paint.  Can't wait for spring to hit it again with the old 3 step system.

    Cheers, and welcome!

Yes the first pic is the before pic. And yes my paint has tons of "swirls/spiderwebs" . The swirls I was referring to in my post was the "hase" that was left by the Rinseless wash, which buffed out with another dry rag.

  5. Well my truck really needed to be wash and with the storm completely surrounding my area today I didn't want to do a complete wash so I figured it was a great chance to try the Rinseless wash. It was cold and windy so I only took a few pics.

Now I'm not a 100% on board with this product but there are a lot of factors that determine that. 1st off this and the "silver towels" I won on Instagram are the only Adams products I own and have ever owned. I watched the videos and "how-to's" so I have a good idea of how the product works. This time I used my standard 1gallon wash bucket that I've had forever now and filled it with water out of the faucet and then put some of the Rinseless wash in the bucket (no real measurement just poured some in) then put one of the silver towels in the bucket to soak. I didn't prerinse the truck even though I probably should have. But I just used the one towel to wipe down the truck and three others to dry it as I went. While I liked this process because owning a black truck and not getting water spots is next to impossible this was a nice change. I did not use this system on the tires and wheels or wheel wells because I wasn't sure if I could or not. Now I know I didn't use this product correctly at all but I think I needed more drying towels because it kind of left swirls after drying that I had to go back over and hand buff back out.

I think with some more time (and a less dirty truck) this might be a great product for in between wash product, or as a wash for my rock crawler when I pull it out of the garage.

Now I just need to figure out my new polisher and see about fixing the paint on this thing!

I bought the HF polisher out of curiosity since it was so cheap. It works fine with 3in pads and backing plate. I've seen people have success with it and 5 or 6in pads as well. The backing plate that comes with it is not very good quality, so you'll probably want to change it out for a better one. (5in pad/backing plate combo being ideal)

Use it with carpet attachments as well.

I haven't used the PC enough to compare the 2 since I have never owned one, but the HF doesn't compare to the GG6.

If you're a beginner, I don't see why you wouldn't want to only spend $50 and go from there.

Beat me to it, I was going to look up the specs and post it to see how it compared. So if I'm reading your post right I'm fine using the body of the machine but get a 5" backer instead of the provided 7" backer?

  7. I personally have had to let people down the hard way a couple times with HB Polishers. I know Adam's doesn't sell the PC7424 anymore, maybe you could find one used or go purchase one from Tool King or Lowe's. That's about the only thing near that price point, that I feel is any good.

Can you please elaborate as to why the HF polishers aren't good?

The PC ones start at $100 the HF one after coupon was $40....not really the same price point in my mind, I can get the other one for $50 which is why I asked about them....

  8. Thanks guys, I've been meaning to make it up there but every time it seems we have plans to go up something else happens. I was going to go to the last clinic but we got a huge snow storm and didn't really feel like driving my 2wd truck up there. I really need a nice weekend so I can have the truck clean and go up there so they can help me evaluate it.

  9. Thanks guys, I'm in Colorado Springs.

I've watched a ton of the videos which is why I say I need to step up my game. I spend 99% of that time washing and drying and then going back over it to get all the stupid water spots off of my truck....

Look forward to learning a ton from this forum!

  10. So I'm new here and am somewhat of a noob to the detailing world. I always try and keep my vehicles looking good, but about two years ago I bought a black Silverado and it needs lots of help! Even after spending all day washing and waxing it, it still only looks ok.

So for Christmas I got a Harbor Freight 7" Variable Speed polisher/sander item #60626 and I was wondering if this was ok to use on my truck or if I should go trade it in for the 6 In. Variable Speed Dual Action Polisher Item#69924........???

I know harbor freight is not the best but I'm on a super low budget and don't want to dump a ton of money into something that A) I don't know about and B.) might use only once or twice.

I know I need to step up my washing game after browsing around here a bit but that will come with some time and trial and stepping up some of my products.

    Nick
