  1. Sorry I made such a big deal of this. That stuff is so expensive I didn't want to waste any or whatever.

IMO, that stuff is SO much easier to deal with than MSW. I even had a phone call and forgot about it and 15 mins later went to wipe it off and it was no problem at all. However the MSW took DS and a MF towel and using the light to check. Missed a spot, more DS and more MF wiping and when I think I finally had it all.... I drive it outside and the light shows more "streaks".

The americana is an outstanding product.

  2. Your Mom shouldn't waste her money. I use to sell lots of aftermarket items and that was one of them. Granted, the paint protection does protect your car a very small amount. Detailing and waxing it yourself with high quality product is the much wiser way to go. Better results by far.

Dealer cost for Paint Protection 10 yrs ago was $39.99...car buyer cost $159.99. Guess who lost on that deal??? You can buy an awful lot of Adam's product for that price!!

Tell Mom to just say "NO"!!

here is a direct quote from junkman from another forum if this helps.

"I have seen this question come up on just about every car care forum known to man. Here's the real scoop. The 3M Clear Bra is the only paint protection available that is actually some type of protection. Not only does it work but you can clearly see and feel it on the car when you get close enough.

Anything else (and I mean EVERYTHING else) is complete BS. Don't let some fancy, smooth talking salesman talk you into buying this crap. In most cases, they whip your car back to the detailing section and wax the thing, then roll it out to you like something was done to the car. Total BS. Don't get screwed out of your cash by falling for this gimmick."

  3. That material seems similar to what cars have covering their gauge cluster. I remember someone a while back tried to get the swirls out of that (I think it was Devin) but I forgot if it worked or if he just couldn't get his hands behind the steering wheel to really work at it. I've never tried to remove swirls from that type of material so I can't say for sure what will happen but I don't see how you could make it worse so it seems worth giving it a try

As for the headlight, if that haziness is on the outside it looks like it should buff out. Give it a shot with the PC instead of the drill and let us know. If you can literally 'feel' something on the headlight in that area you could also try claying them before polishing.

Thanks, I will give the PC on my headlight a try tomorrow.

As far as the bike not getting any worse, I would ahve to agree and I have already tried it slightly, it didn't do much, but I wasn't sure if I would have to go deeper if I could. I don't know if they are like one think clear coat, of if the plexiglass has a thin clear coat on it or not.

Or if the sanding is an option, if it is possible to" bring back" from a sand.

  4. It is possible that the inside faded if the seal dried up and air and moisture got inside the housing. My DD is also an oldish car and was neglected for years when it was owned by my mother, take a look what Adam's has done for it:

The headlights used to be as yellow as a pencil, and now they are as clear as they could be. I was close to buying replacement lenses on ebay for $30 each but 10 minutes with some SHR solved that problem

Take some photos so we can see what you're dealing with and steer you in the right direction

    nice job!

its not the best picture, it is night, I will ahve to wait for some sun to really show you.

I will try the PC and the 4" pads as it was a cordless electric and was lowish on power, so that oculd have been. The chuck is way out forn too, so it was VERY hard to keep from "running away" on me. I let it stay in one spot for "too long" since if they are ruined it is not a big deal if I "ruin" them lol. But it didn't even get hot to the touch, just warm, so my guess is low power as well.

Inspecting it closer, I think it is plexiglass, though, and not glass.

but here is the bike, it doesn't effect vision or anything, it would just look nicer....... small children might want to look away, it is bad.

  5. I just got saw the americana for the first time on a demo car, that stuff is impressive!

When I wipe it off, it is ok to use DS if I need "help" getting it off like when wiping off the MSW or just strait MF towell?

and how long should I wait before adding a second coat?

And do you think WCW will make it last longer than shampoo wash, or is it about the same.... is it a wash between the two processes? :lolsmack:

  6. I was trying to help a neighbor restore their headlights (since I got my 4" kit today) they had some wierd yellow "coating" type stuff on it. I could feel it with my hand, but a drill on full speed will SHR and a yellow pad wasn't making this tuff budge.

I don't know if glass is the same properties of clear coat... Can you sand with 2000 and work your way back up to 2500 and then 3000 and then get the 3000 out with the yellow or orange like I saw junkman do on clear coat with 2500 > 3000> orange with SHR? Or once you sand glass is it perminantly ruined?

I also want to try the same on plexiglass, like on a motorcycle wind deflector. There isn't the wierd yellow stuff, but it is scratched up like someone rubbed it with a steel wool pad. There is a sticker that says don't use abraisives on it, but minor scratches can be removed, but I wasn't sure if that was just a legaly obligated warning type sticker and if you can "take layers" of a plexiglass off, or is there some kind of protective coating like a clear coat on them too?

    Thanks.

  7. If someone would give me a PS class than maybe I could do something really cool like that. I have PS Elements 7 and I am having a hard time figuring it out. Should I maybe have started out with an earlier version? Maybe I just need to sit down and teach myself but I don't seem to find the time. I am very impatient when it comes to something I can't figure out. :help:

I even have PS Elements 7 for Dummies. :loser:

If we ever met we could swap. I know how to use it real well.... but I don't have it lol.

OP, I like the license plate.... ballsy

  8. I had the pleasure of meeting Adam today and I watched him free spin his PC and wow was it ever true (balanced).

He played around with mine switching pads and plates ect. and then I mentioned this infamous "washer". He took it off, and my PC worked great. It was just as true as his.

I fugure if the man himself told me to take it off and it is uneeded, the same man backing the 110% Unconditional Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee, its good enought for me.

Now I know why I couldn't use the side handle on 6opm for more than 30 seconds without feeling that my hand is about to break off, that unbalanced PC REALLY viberates bad. I was able to try out the balanced PC and the difference was night and day. Not only was it soooo much easier to hold, but I think it did a better job faster too and no pad DUSTING!

Where else can you get this kind of customer service? :2thumbs:

  9. You're not annoying me. The thing that I'm worried about is that you're probably scaring others who may be leery about trying this themselves. I go through a lot of trouble to show folks how easy paint correction is and most folks experience the same results that I get. However, someone reading one of your threads would think that this is rocket science when in fact, it is as easy as I make it look in my videos. All it takes is practice, viewing the videos and reading. I want to ensure those who never post and only read these threads that your situation is not the norm, but the exception.

My fault, I never really looked at it that way. I looked at it as if you get the products and for some reason it isn't going like you thought, there is a great online community that is willing to help.

There might even be something wrong with my PC, I am going to have it personally inspected by Adam tomorrow at the show. How many people will get Mr. Maguires or Mr. Zaino to go to these lengths to insure they are satisfied? I think that shows how great not only show how great the product is, but the compan too and how much he is willing to stand behind his product.

If people are reading this and want to know, I think I could have done a light colored car the first time with no troubles at all (dispite minor dusting). The troubles came from me having a black car and wanting to to get a 95% results.

I don't want to mislead anyone, it is VERY easy, but there is a slight learning curve. It takes time to learn how the product works in, how much pressure to put on it and how to keep that pressure, and how fast to move the machine. Using the PC wrong is not going to damage your (colored) paint as you have shown in the videos. But it can do minor "damage" on your clear coat of paint (easily seen on darker cars). Its nothing that can't be eaisily fixed with another pass of the PC, but you don't want to mislead people and say that the first time you use the PC you will get 100% results on a black car, because IMO that is not true. Its a safe, great machine used with great products, so any joe can probly get a light colored car looking great and a dark car looking good do to the simplicity, but to get a dark car looking pristine takes some time and some learning.

I did my trunk first and did just like you did in your video and this is before the pad started dusting and I got great results I would say the 85% solution. I coulndn't believe how easy it was and how great it looked with such little know-how and effort.

And I couldn't believe how easy the tank on my bike was by hand and how great it looked after just 5 mins, I didn't know the shine could be so deep and wet looking!

If you can't tell, I am a very long winded person (in text) and I repeat myself a lot becuase I am not sure if I got the point across, so it is me, that is making this seem difficult, not the product.

If you like you can go back and delete my post that have dumb questions or whatever. I already edited my first post to reflect what I said above, hope that helps.

  10. I mean, you are having issues that I have never seen or heard of anyone having. Flaking MSW?

The odd things happening are exactly why I am asking all the questions. I must be doing something different, and I am trying to find out what by all the post, and it has also made me slightly cautious, and obviously annoyed you, sorry that is not my intent. But I am pretty much done now, so I won't be bugging you anymore. Thanks again for the help.

  11. Why are you using pressure to apply wax?
because I never applied wax before, I didn't know what I was doing. I know that polishing shines it and waxing protects it, but I thought you might need to apply pressure to get the wax into the paint?

If you looked at Adam's video, what is it that you don't understand about laying wax, regardless of if you've never done it before? All you do is duplicate what Adam did. What is so confusing about that?

My problem there was I "waxed" it before I watched the video. Then I watched it and just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Sorry for hassling you.

You and about 4 billion other Adam's users. I can teach a 5 year old to lay wax with a PC.

Ouch, obviously I am a noob, as the thread is clearly labeled "first time detailing" no need to make me feel stupider than a 5 year old or 4 billion people.

But you left out that its so easy you could teach a marine how to do it :lolsmack: sorry, I had to get you back somehow.
