  1. Hey guys its been a while. Was loaded up with class all summer I really didn't have any time to enjoy it or take any pictures. So being big into paranormal I made another trip on October 27th for this Halloween party/investigation at this haunted school in Maxwell, Iowa. Stayed the night in a hotel near by after leaving the hunt at close to 4am. Video on the school.

. It's about 5 hour drive each way from IL and little over 300 miles each way. So leaving Friday morning there was huge winds and especially head winds of at least 20-30mph constant the whole way there. They also got worse from having farmland on both sides that was already processed so nothing to block the wind at all. I also had a bunch of semis passing semis the whole way there and was hard to use or set my cruise without having to slow down in order not to rear end a truck that just cut me off ha ha. So whole way going to Iowa I was doing 65-70 and 65-80 going back home. Still averaged 38.8mpgs combined going and coming and 39mpgs returning. Temps were in the 20-50's. Not sure the cooler temps helped or hurt the mileage or having to let the car warm up for a good 10 minutes or so when the windows were frosted over with the defrost on. Car hit 3,000 that trip too in the 6 months I've owned still sitting most the time due to school and not having to drive anywhere. Truck had 4500 miles the two years I had it ha ha. Anyway here's some pictures from today, enjoy

  2. That's a great shine you've got Don, it looks simultaneously plain black, and metallic. It's often difficult to get metallic black cars to look deep and dark. What combination of products did you use? Brilliant Glaze, followed by Americana?

Thanks Neil, I use Fine Machine Polish on a green or white pad with my orbital, then a coat of Machine Super Wax(sealant), topped off with two coats of Americana and a glaze or spray wax wipe down after washing.

  3. Hey guys,

I took the car 903 miles 7 hours each way (450 miles each way) on two tanks of gas and still got 42.5 mpgs doing 70-80mph in the left lane of traffic with ac on or windows down the whole time. So gave it some love the day after getting back. I also finally got my tints done (35% all four windows), and my black bow ties on. Not bad for my first black car that wasnt a $2,000 beater haha. Cruze now has half the miles my truck had in 3 years in just over 3 months of driving haha. Some quick drive way pics today, Enjoy!

  4. Awesome numbers, so nice to see an AMERICAN car with those great MPGs that isn't a Prius :jester:

My Chevy Malibu (2009) gets pretty good MPG as well, I went to San Francisco and back recently and I got 35 MPG. I can easily get 30 MPG on the highway going 70-73 MPH. My only complaint is that it's small, being 6'4'', I have the seat all the way back and actually sit behind the B pillar and have to slide forward, then sideways to get in/out of the car, a major PITA. If Chevy made a larger sedan with these great MPG, I'd be in heaven. An no, the Impala won't do, I had a 2008 SS Impala and it stunk with MPG.

I actually had a couple Priuses on the highway purposely riding my *** when they saw what car I was driving then floor it around me to show their "battery power" when im already doing 70-75 lol. Im like that's not economy minded driving haha. I couldnt believe all the brand new gas guzzlers out there now too that gas dropped. Brand new escalades, denalis, tahoes, and suburbans. In the current market I cant see dropping huge money on something that gets 10-12 mpgs. I love that fact that my car gets diesel/hybrid like mileage without the hyrbid and diesel costs. I still couldnt believe that even with a full car, ac on blast, temps over a 100 degrees, and doing 70-80mph whole way home I still got over 40mpgs. Im 5'11"-6' ft and fit comfortable. I have a touchy back after a bad car accident two years ago and havent driving stick since then either. I had no issues at all driving 800 miles round trip in less than two days. I wonder if the 2013 malibu redesign has more room for you. They have that eco model now too. I'm not a big fan of hybrids

  5. Also are you a fuelly member? If no check it out, my dad and I both use it religiously. My name is renurbs...

Ya I am, but Ive only had the car two weeks so on the trip was the first timing filling it up since I bought it and I didnt keep track of how much gas I put in each time to the T. I will going forward though. Im beecha91 on fuelly.

  6. Would like to see what actuall pen and paper mileage was.... The car it's self can be very misleading. Especially since I believe on the cruze the avg mpg that you are looking at there is for the last 50 miles

I know that...I always do it by hand every trip, and its always at least 42-43 and spot on. The average on the last 50 is always pretty close to the trip average too. That last 50 best score is only on the eco model. Of course its going hard to have it stay near 50 mpgs the entire trip or tank with traffic, hills, weather, and air conditioning etc. Its really more of a game to play while driving to see how high you can get. I also use the instant and try to keep it above 50mpgs as much as I can. Hilly roads kill the instant and always drops to 28-35. Its hard to calculate the best score average if you have to keep on driving and maybe hit traffic and it goes down. Also for saftey reasons haha.

  7. Hey guys,

I left monday morning in the eco which still only had about 200 miles so far. So I figured what better way to break her in than a road trip. Trip was 368 miles each way. So my parents and I in the car with the AC on the whole trip with temps in the 80-100s whole time. I left the house and the average was right around 42-43mpgs and best mpg was 45.5. Doing right around 65-70 on the way there the average starting creeping up to 46 then 47 then 48 and then 49. As we stopped for lunch it showed 49.7 for the new best score. So after leaving for lunch it fell a little bit with traffic and more hills. When I finally got to some more level ground it started creeping up again slowly to the same 48-49 range. To when it finally hit the 50.0 mark for a while before again hitting more unlevel ground/roads. The downfall of the gauge is that it maxes out at 50.0 so my high might have been more than that. 87 octane in ohio was only 3.17 as well about 30 cents cheaper than here. So I left on a half a tank and filled up in indiana and cost me $26 for 8 gallons while at a 1/4 tank. And drove the remaining way and filled up when we left yesterday morning before heading back. Still had around a 1/4 tank or less and cost me another $26 and 8 gallons. Reset the trip on the way back doing more 75-80 than on the way there due to traffic and wacky sunday drivers the 366 mile trip with an average mph of 60 was 42.4. Again with AC on max and some heavy rain with temps in the 100s and a strong crosswind. Cars stone stock outside of raised tire pressure and fixing the manufacture error in the spark plug gap. VERY happy with the car so far. Has a 1,000 miles right now.

  8. I wish there were more Diesel cars availible in the US. Right now VW has the corner on the market. As far as cars go (not Trucks/SUVs/Crossovers) these are the only Diesels availible: VW- Golf, Jetta, Passat. Mercedes E Class, S Class, Audi- A3. BMW sold a 3 and 5 series d a couple years ago but they stoped.

I cant wait till Chevy offers a Cruze diesel, hopefully it will help diesel become more popular in the US.

  9. AWESOME! Great MPG too!

My last tank in the G8 was 22.6 and that's 95% highway miles. Of course I've got a few more BHP and it probably weighs 900lbs more. lol

Good luck with the black though! That's pretty much the same paint as my G8 and it's the last black DD I'll own.

That was mixed city driving with hitting almost every light, some WOT, and some 40-50 mph for ten miles haha. Pretty crazy when its rated at 28 city and 35 combined. I just raised the tire pressure a bit and regapped the sparkplugs that come gapped wrong from the factory. That really seemed to help. The plugs are supposed to help 2-3 mpgs and improve the driveability. They came gapped at in the .02-.023 range when it calls for 0.033 range. Everyone says there should be a TSB for it but theres nothing yet for it. Very happy I didnt go the hybrid route like I planned to get something that gets over 40 mpgs and be stuck with something boring to drive. My goal now is to hit 50 and I'm not hypermiling at all either. Just shift with shift light in car or try to skip gears and go 1 2 4 6.

Nice! Every time I see one of these I can't help but think of the commercial that takes place at a retirement home and the elderly people are shutting "Eco, Eco, Eco!" it's hilarious!!

haha, I like the one where people just purposely have no where to go and drive around and around due to the high mpgs.

Nice ride! Congratulations. My neighbor has the same one in a nice red. Unfortunately he hasn't washed it since he bought it last year. Hopefully you will keep yours up better than he does. I love the black. Good choice :D

Thanks, My only two black cars were beaters haha. One was a 92 ranger splash way back in like 97' 98' and a $2k zx2 escort I bought like 5 years ago with 130k on it already. haha I have the new car curse of rain. Whole time buying it thursday it POURED.
