How hard was it to take the vents of the hood?

Very easy, just watch out for the "speaker grills" and the screws falling in the hood. I use a magnetic screwdriver. Your back will be sore leaning over. The other vents are handtight nuts very easy to get to.

Didn't have any Adam's chrome polish but who new Brilliant Glaze was good enough for Cars and Coffee.

These pics are useless... can't get a good shot no matter what I try with wifey's fancy Nikon $$$ digi camera. I wish it looked like the pics, but still scratchy like the corvette in the thread I mentioned.

Thanks for all the replies. The clear coat scratches aren't circular so it's my delusion I'm not damaging it. It was pretty oxidized so maybe I let the real scratches "come out" getting rid of the overall haze.

Anyway I'll keep going, then it's on to the Viper for version 2.0.

So it seems my wife's 4Runner, a daily driver that's never gotten a detailing but kept clean (mortals call it clean, but its not Adam's clean) is now getting the Flex treatment with Adam's. It's also my first Flex detail so I thought I'd cut my teeth (and paint) only on the hood.

I noticed the paint to be worse than I thought, much oxidized and clear coat scratches under the garage lights. So I started the typical green-orange-white on setting 5. The car was no where near as bad as my '99 black Viper but it's not coming clean and I did my BLACK Viper with my trusty PC:

I tried backing off to setting 4 with white like the Corvette but it did nothing. It's hard to tell when the flashing happens with the white paint. Any suggestions?

"finished"... you know that is never true but a good time to take a breather right before the Moparfest in town.

There was a light breeze so the grit you see is the dust particles already accumulating...

nice thing about viper paint is its not nearly as hard as say a corvette's clearcoat.

 

PC may be all you need, but given the condition of what your working on, the FLEX will save you time!

 

i like to ask this, how much is your time worth? you could save about 1/3 of your polishing time by using the flex. that could be 2-4 hours of your time.

I chickened out and went with the PC. Working in the garage is kind of a no pressure thing so more time is no problem.

what about the "gunk"?? I figure Adam's all purpose cleaner but what about the elbow grease part?.. microfiber towel or old toothbrush (is that blasphemy here)?

Finally it's time to shed my snake's hologram and scratched skin for an Adam's mirror shine. Thanks to the Junkman and his videos for getting me here.

So, the ongoing Flex v. PC... Right now I have my checkout cart on adamspolishes.com ready to pull the trigger, just want to make sure what's the best choice to get rid of my issues. What y'all think? The car has no major deep "fingernail" scratches, just pervasive holograms and clear coat scratches. There's also old gunk from "detailing" by the previous owner as shown in the picture of my vent cranny. There's also hard water etching, notably on the exhaust sill also shown.

A newbie from Albuquerque with a '99 viper gts black/black in dire need of shedding its skin for a total Adam's makeover.

The dog is a little blotchy, don't you think?
