It's not always necessary. As you said, though, it could cause some minor marring, and the mitt can leave some noticable black smudges, especially on white, if you don't use enough Detail Spray. So be sure to use plenty, and I'd recommend leaving the car wet after rinsing to add more lubrication. You can even clay with soap suds, assuming the car is clean.

Thank you, falcaineer for the response.  I've seen Joe do that in one of the videos, where he used the clay mitt over top of the suds, after he washed the car.  I don't remember him mentioning the car needing to be polished afterwards.

  2. Hello,

I have a white SUV and it needs to be clayed before I can apply some protection to it.  I've been thinking about trying the clay mitt, but I'm curious to know if it's always necessary to polish a vehicle after it's been clayed? I'm thinking it will show very minor marring, if any at all.

  3. Hello Dan, thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

So, to make sure I understand the process correctly.  I would clean and rinse the wheels, followed by applying Detail Spray to them as I went. Then, either during the initial or final rinse of the vehicle, I would thoroughly rinse the wheels and not have any issues?

  4. A new video was posted to YouTube a couple of day's ago, it showed Adam demonstrating how to quickly detail your daily driver.  In the video he talked about spraying the wheels with Detail Spray after cleaning them to prevent water spots.  So do you just spray and allow them to air dry while you move on to the next wheel?

Hi Eric, I've used the Wheel & Tire Cleaner at about an 8:1 dilution ratio (approx 45 oz of Water and 5 oz of Wheel & Tire Cleaner) in the iK Foam Pro 2 Sprayer, and it made a ton of foam. My wheels had very heavy brake dust build-up and it removed about 90% of the brake dust.

So I would say to go with a 6:1 dilution ratio (43 oz of water and 7 oz of Wheel & Tire Cleaner in the IK Foam Pro 2 canister) for a little more concentrated cleaning and even more foam.

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post!

I will definitely give this a try and see how it works.
