  1. So I was polishing my 2013 WRX's front bumper yesterday with my Portal Cable, 4" orange pad and Adams correcting polish. When I wiped the polish away I noticed that the edge of my bumper was burnt through. Now I had the bumper repainted 4 months ago do to an unfortunate bottoming out incident, so I am wondering if the body shop cut some corners and did not put enough clear or color down. I'm pretty shocked that a DA on a speed setting 4 with 4" pad could do this. I took it back to the body shop today and they agreed to repaint it, but I'm wondering how this could have happened so easily? I was moving the machine so as not to build up heat in any one are. Interested to hear some opinions.
  2. I have a very small dent on the roof of my Subaru WRX that has been bothering me. I have no idea how it got there but must have happened sometime over the winter. It seems the more you care for the car the more destruction comes its way. You can only see it when the light hits it right. I have been reading about people who have heated the dent with a blow dryer and immediately sprayed the area with a compressed air can upside down to remove dents. Apparently the rapid heating and cooling conforms the metal back to normal. Has anyone tried this with success? From what I have read online it seems like it has helped some people and done nothing for others. Would this be safe on the paint as long as you don't over heat it?
  3. So I put the claim in the system and if I act upon the claim I am responsible for my deductible but can be reimbursed for it by my insurance company since I was not at fault. I brought the car by the body shop this morning and they seemed to believe that it will not spread or cause future issues other than maybe being a visible defect. Without a light on the car I can't see it so I guess I will need to get the car in the sun whenever I can to see if this is something I would want repainted. Such a bummer and a hassle with a new car.
  4. Thanks. So maybe I can go after his insurance for the repair.
  5. It was the other persons fault. They hit the gas at a light and were not paying attention to how slow traffic was accelerating. Michigan is a no fault state so I am not sure that the other persons insurance could pick up the tab.
  6. Its on the plastic bumper and not on the metal deck lid. The clear seems fine and it can't be polished out so I am assuming it is the base coat.
  7. Thanks. I am afraid it will be a problem down the road but was really not sure. Like I said the defect does not really show unless you have the right light on it and it is towards the bottom of the bumper. Unfortunately right now I am paying for a wedding and a new house so a body shop bill is really not in the cards.
  8. So I was rear ended in my 3 month old 2013 WRX tonight. Luckily I was rolling forward slightly and the other driver hit me lightly enough to not cause too much damage. All the scratches and scuffs buffed out pretty well but I noticed a small area of spider webbing. It looks worse in the picture with the flash catching it, but my question is will this get worse over time. You can not catch anything with your finger nail and there appears to be no cracking. I want to avoid a repaint for money reasons and for the sake of my metallic paint possibly not matching. Your thoughts are appreciated.
  9. I am using the factory touch up paint from the dealer. I have the langka system, but as many as I have received over the winter the Dr. Color Chip method would be faster.
  10. I was wondering what the ideal temperature would be for using touch up paint to touch up stone chips on my WRX? Unfortunately winter is taking its toll on my front bumper and I noticed a bunch of chips on it after cleaning it not that long ago. It is a very warm 16 degrees right now with a "feels like temp" of 3 degrees in Michigan. Should I just wait for warmer weather in the spring and take care of the damage then? Luckily I have not received any chips on the hood and only on the plastic front bumper. I always keep my distance when driving but I think cars passing on the highway are just throwing unavoidable missiles at my car.
