  1. I was also thinking if say I do get the position, and wanted to do side work I would be able to say that my full time job is detailing at a Mercedes Benz dealership. It would probably take doubt out of the customers minds about me working on their vehicles maybe.

  2. Ok so I have been looking at starting my own business. I have since saw an ad for a Mercedes Benz dealer looking for a detailer. I sent over my resume and they want to interview me. It would be an hour drive each way for me to work there.

At first I thought it would be a good chance to get some hands on training and experience, but now the more I read, the more it sounds like a bad idea and that I will be learning the wrong way to do things.

    Thoughts?

  3. Don't get me wrong, I'm completely against texting and driving. I'm glad it's illegal to do here in Massachusetts yet I still see people doing it all the time. The thing is, people are stupid, and it's hard to legislate common sense. And when you try to make something idiot-proof, someone just comes up with a better idiot.

I have to agree with this 100%

Problem is people take things for granted anymore, and take no responsibility for their actions. That's why we have so many law suits in this country.

I always said if all vehicles were stick shift, then maybe people wouldn't have a chance to be so distracted, and would be better drivers. :D

C'mon transporter technology! (Just think, it would free up the roads for people who want to actually drive for the love of it :burnout: )

  4. Which would suck if you were a passenger and wanted to text someone which is perfectly safe.

Its a small price to pay if it makes the roads safer. I am sure people could wait until they get home or if you are in a car as the passenger you could reply when the driver is at a red light since the car is going under 10mph. People were able to manage before texting came to be.

  5. Sad thing is that all they would have to do is make it so you could not send or receive text messages if the phone is traveling past 10mph. The phones all have GPS, or even from just the cell towers they already have the technology for that to happen through just a software enhancement with the phone itself. Problem solved.

  6. 1. Insurance for sure.

    2. I do already have quick books, didn't know if there was something better.

    3. Not sure on how much work we could do yet. I know I would want to do everything by appointment only. I also know I can't knit pick everything like I do my own vehicles. I was hoping for 2-3 per day? (I know it depends on what services they require)

    4. Motorcycles seemed like they would be a pain in the rear, that's why I asked.

Social media is not a problem. I have lots of experience with that and marketing. Just trying to crunch some numbers to see where I need to be with it.

  7. Ok I am looking at starting a detailing business. I have had other business's in the past so I know about proper paperwork, etc. But I have never had a service business before.

I think I want to go brick and mortar vs mobile, I think I found a good location for the business. Our town is upper class, and we don't have a detail shop within a half hour of here.

First question, what does everyone use for software to keep track of clients, etc?

Second, How much work would you feel that a 2 person crew could handle in a week?

Third, Are motorcycles worth the work to detail?

Thanks in advance for your help.
