That is usually the way it goes. Just when you think your good, something else comes up. Like those brushes on Daily Special right now.
Dah, i know, i was tempted lol.
Next orders will be the 4" pads maybe a gallon of detail spray. Damn, so much more stuff.

Dude, e46 AW M3s are soooooo beautiful, I would love to own one of them! I will definitely buy one in future if I can find a clean manual one (and obviously if I have enough money)
Love the e92 also man.

Or do as I did: "Let's go try this out on Mommies car!"
how did that turn out?
You will probably want more detail spray for the initial claying. Seems like the first time claying is the worst time, after that you don't use quite as much DS. I have gone to the gallon size on DS for savings and convenience.I have extra detail spray and claybars laying around that i will use on a test subject.
I bought the flex for my first polisher, granted I tryed both out at Adams before I bought (benefit of living nearby Adams:rockon:) and had Mook showing me how to use it, but the videos are really good at explaining what you need to know, and the forums have the rest.In my opinion the PC is actually harder to control than the flex, and it also takes more effort on your part, if you are going to polish more than one car get the flex, if time is important to you get the flex.
It's here...

I'm with Brian, this car does not look like there is much to tape. The Flex is more powerful than the PC, but not enough to burn edges easily - just keep the polisher moving. Tape things that could tear the pad (emblems) or things that will make them dirty (plastic trim, rubber window and sunroof trim).
Will do, thank you for the advice.
Wow, was that thing a rental car? It's thrashed! Great test subject.LMAO
You're over thinking it. Just tape off areas you don't want polish on. Typically where paint meets trim. Fender gaps and the like are fine. If you are building up there, you are using too much product!Thank you

Most of that should come out, however there are some deeper scratches that will probably not come out, but they will be less noticeable. There is one area that looks like clearcoat failure.
I have worked on the headlights on one of these, and while I was able to clear the outside, they were also cloudy inside.
That's what i was thinking also, in some areas, the clear coat just looks SHOT. I don't know if someone tried to do this before and burned through certain spots or what.
I'm looking forward to the headlights. Hope it's not inside though, cause that would be a waste.
Any tips on taping off edges? As noob as i am, i'm wondering how you guys are defining EDGES. Example..hood meets fender gap, curvature of the rear body panel into the trunk sorta speak?

Nice post

It looks like you have a lot of opportunity to learn while correcting this one. Good luck! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
I'm a newbie detailer and have a project like this to work on myself. It should be a good place to learn!!
I'm glad i have this to learn on, but i know it's gunna be a rough one.
Yikes! That thing is hammered!!LOL, comming from you, that is scary.

not my car damnit lol. A friends Black Hyundai Elantra. It's in pretty bad shape so he really doesn't care. I never ever polished before but before i move on to my bmw he is allowing me to try my luck on his car.
Here is what i ordered.
Adam's Complete Flex XC 3401 VRG Polisher Kit
Adam's Brilliant Glaze Machine Pad
Adam's Premium Shine Detail Kit
Adam's Pad Cleaning & Conditioning Brush
I wanted to make sure i had a decent amount of stuff to Mainly and efficiently romove swirls and make it shine.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE any pointers on ANYTHING, TAPING or, on how to work edges and what is exactly defined as an edge? I don't even know if some of this stuff can be removed as you can see the condition of the paint.
I think it's safe to say to start out with adams SEVERE SWIRL REMOVER.
How do you guys think it CAN come out?
This is also washed.
-
Wow you spent some coin!
Wanted to make sure i had everything to get rid of the swirls and to make it shine.
-
Just to let you guys know, i ordered the flex kit. Very nervous, i will be asking for some pointers on it soon, before i try it on my friends beat up hyndai elantra.

Adam i have a alpine white bmw m3. I'm reading that BMW's clear coat is a harder coat. I just don't want to mess up my car lol. Once i learn i will probably do others cars as well. Since we are on the topic, how would you tell if its a harder clear coat, or softer? Thanks for you help.
-
Good job man, you help me make up my mind, since i have an e46 AW m3. I was gunna go pc, but because of your post, i'm going flex.
-
Looks like i'm gunna have to go with the flex....same car accept i'm an e46 m3. In white also.
Does anyone know if they are gunna make the 4" pads for the flex?
