  1. Thanks for your response. I'll be sure to keep my eye on the pads. I have plenty so should be good. I'll definitely go at a slow steady pace and check my work. Thanks
  2. Hi all. I got into the detailing craze just last year when I got my 2012 370Z (practice on my Mazda 3 LOL) and have since bought a boat load of detailing products. I have the Porter Cable random orbit polisher as well as all the severe swirl, new two step polishes all the way down to fine machine polish, glazes, waxes both buttery and Americana. I have ample clay materials as well and not to forget proper washing products. Plenty of plush microfibre too. My father owns a 1979 Corvette that has been sitting in his garage and hasn't been on the road since 2001, he developed Parkinsons awhile back so he is no longer capable of driving. The car is off being fixed up to be put back in road worthy condition. Here is where I come in. My folks know how I look after my Z and I'd like to give something back to them by showing off my talents so I thought I'd come here to ask a few questions. The paint is actually pretty good looking from what I could quickly tell, it spent all its life in a very nice, dry garage. It has a bit of dust on it but overall it looks to be a great blank canvas to work with. The proper wash is a given then I was thinking clay bar followed with the new two step polishing process, then sealant, glaze, Americana. Are there any special techniques or tips when detailing an older car with fiberglass body panels? I thought I read in passing that you have to be careful with polishing fiberglass due to its inability to dissipate heat but my intuition tells me the PC would be Ok?? I'll get a better assessment of the paint once I see it in day light. Can't wait to get it back and get started. Thanks all, appreciate any advice, feedback.
  3. Thanks very much for your responses, I appreciate it. Makes perfect sense now that you mention that the sealant achieves better bonding before the glaze.
  4. I was wondering why you glaze after the machine sealant and not the other way around? Wouldn't the glaze process ruin or partially ruin the sealant layer? I have the paint clayed and fine machined polished and I'm wondering what my next steps will be. I think sealant, glaze then Americana. How many of you use the PC for applying glaze? Thanks
  5. Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it.
  6. I see in the videos to give the pad just a mist of detail spray, then put your product on the pad and have at er. Just wondering if anyone has ever slightly dampened their pads with water? I did not get started yet with my new kit but I've seen with other pads, people slightly dampen the pads by saturating them in water then squeezing out as much water as possible then towel blotting them so they are just barely moist. 99% of my instincts say go by the videos and just put detail spray on dry pad followed by product. Just trying to get some feedback from the pros. Thanks all. Great site by the way. Can't wait to get started with my PC.
  7. Few pics of the Z as requested. I just received my third order from Adamspolishes.ca great service and well packaged. A big bonus having a vendor up north. I'm going to practice on my 2008 Black Mazda 3 daily driver, it sees harsh eastern Canadian winters, the Z will be all cozy in the garage in about 3 months.
  8. So I went ahead and ordered the PC and a bunch of pads as well as the 4" pads and adapter. I did not go with the severe swirl polish and pad because I don't think my projects are that bad. If they are then I'll order what's required. My question is; When you are using the swirl and haze remover with pad do you continue moving until there is no residue remaining or is it best to leave a bit and then buff out with MF towel? Same with the machine polish, super machine sealant, glaze etc etc?? Thanks, my ocd is kicking in big time LOL.
  9. Thanks John, appreciate the welcome.
