Thinking of buying a Canon T2i

I've been wanting a nice camera for quite a while. I was playing with my aunt's Canon T1i the other day and was very impressed with the quality of images it produces compared to any point and shoot camera I have ever used. Is the T2i worth it? I've seen them manufacturer refurbished (with a full one year warranty) for sale with the 18-55mm lens for about $500. My concern is that this camera has been out since 2010, and I'm not sure if buying a manufacturer refurbished one is a good idea or not. Any input would be appreciated.
