  1. Still undecided on whether I should put VRT on them.... one expert suggests I do, the other one suggests I don't, and tirerack says I shouldn't.
  2. Hello, I just received a new set of wheels with its (also new) mounted tires. These were bought before I knew I was going overseas for 12 to 18 months, so now I need to place them in storage. I was thinking on putting some wax on the wheels, and some VRT on the tires, but then read on tirerack and some other online forums that the best way to store wheels with mounted tires is to place them flat inside dark garbage bags, with as little air as possible, and to not put any dressing on the tires. Suggestions? Comments? Thanks for reading.
  3. Thanks NG. Actually, no, this truck has not seen any salt or sand -- it has seen a few showers, though. It has mainly been covered with a Covercraft cover, left on the street, on a city where temperature never goes below 55F, but relative humidity is always above 90%. So it worries me that if I get the same wheels, the same thing happens again.
  4. Thanks for your comments. Yes marquez83, that's the plan: paint the old wheels and use them during winter, and use the new ones during the rest of the year. However, I haven't decided yet if I should buy exactly the same OEM wheel set, which I do like, or an aftermarket Eagle Alloys (either model 056 or 186). The Eagle Alloys are cast polished aluminum, while the OEMs are part machined, part painted, with some apparently not so good clear coat on top of the machining. Any (probably subjective) opinions? Is it safe to assume both the OEM and the after market wheels will provide with good, safe performance? which of the two would be better for detailing purposes (i.e., which of the two would keep looking their best)? LT1xL82: If I decide to go the OEM route, there's a couple of online distributors that sell GM OEM parts. Price per wheel is between $280 to $320, w/o hub caps and lugs Thanks!
  5. Thanks for all the comments. If I get a new set of identical GM OEM wheels, how can I avoid this happening again?
  6. Thank you all for your very helpful comments. They are *very* much appreciated and extremely helpful. Thanks Adam -- yes, I'm in love with this truck. Wish I had discovered the 3/4 ton Suburban earlier. Plus, I like the fact that this one was perhaps one of the last ones made -- if I'm not mistaken, they ceased production of the 3/4 ton version? I'm seriously considering getting a professional paint job made on these wheels (maybe gun metal), but am also inclined to get a new set of aftermarket wheels. What do you guys think of Eagle Alloy wheels? Ever since I was young, I liked the look of the classic 186 series http://www.aewheel.com/wheels_detail_specs.cfm?id=1990&cat=472 If I go that route, what would be the preferred way to detail and take care of them? I assume they will be of a better quality than the OEMs?
  7. Yes, it is corrosion. Just talked to my close friend who owns a body shop / detailing company with a few locations. He says that probably the only way to fix this is by going through a professional polishing and perhaps re-lathing job. Opinions?
  8. Hello, Just got a 3/4 ton Suburban that has been in storage for close to a year. Paint seems to be in very good condition. However, the wheels have what appears to be lighter colored scratches (but they are not scratches) -- I'm attaching some pictures. Is there any way to leave the wheels looking brand new? Thanks for reading!
  9. Outstanding job, Burninator. Thanks for sharing. Does anybody know if there's any "dressing" or protectant for the undercarriage? Something similar to Chemical Guys BareBones?
  10. Thank you very much Gen9Rolla for your reading my post and your replying to it. No, this is not a daily driver. I don't mind spendig the time, though. What kind of brush you suggest I use, and what kind of dilution ratio on the APC? Is the Adams Undercarriage spray good for this? Thanks again!
  11. Hello, Yes, I'm that OCD, and plan to detail tbe underside of an almost new Suburban. I will actually get underneath .... I have applied some rubberized 3M undercoating to it.... So what products you suggest I use? Thanks!
  12. Thank you very much, for both your welcome and the quick reply. Have a great week-end!
  13. Hello everyone! Just joined the forum, and about to start my first detailing project with Adams. I have 2 questions, that maybe someone can help me with: 1. I just bought some Super VRT and some In and Out. I enjoy detailing the engine, so is it correct to assume that I should use In and Out for the hard to reach areas and VRT everywhere else? 2. How about the inside? Shoud I use In and Out, or Total Interior Detailer, which I also got? Thanks for reading!
