  1. Your best bet is to take an old hand applicator. Try some SHR in an inconspicuous spot. See if you get color transfer. If you do, well you know it's single stage and should approach it so. If there is correction to be done on single stAge it will be easy but you WILL kill your pads. Keep that in mind. Otherwise treat it like any other job. 2x2 section to grab your math equation for the cAr, then execute it.

    :)

    Mook

So basically it's the same regardless but if it's single stage, the only difference is that correction will be much faster and I will ruin the pads I use?

  2. Got a buddy with an old 1965 Buick Riviera Base.

I've never done an older car. Does this car have clearcoat? Unfortunately it looks like back to the nooby stage for me when it comes to older vehicles.

What can I use and not use?

Car has sat for the last at minimum 20 years and has been driven twice in the last 2 months after mechanical work for the last year as a project car. I haven't seen it in person yet to inspect how the paint looks up close.

The engine and underneath needs a lot of cleaning up. What is best to use and what is best to protect? My goal is to get this baby as clean as possible and get it to win a show!

Picture since I know some people will want to see it:

  3. I'm not sure about that, but he's at 37 pages on chicagoholdenconnection with his new car saga.

    OP: Nice ride Frank!

    haha

...and no it's not on lsxgto.com. I got myself banned from that waste of a website a long time ago...

  4. I have similar miles on my GTO. If you dont mind me asking how did they do on a trade in?

    $11k.

That is with them knowing the A/C is out and also able to see the felt coming off the passenger door, a lot of leather wear on the drivers seat/steering wheel and the rear stiching issue.

Hhowever, I just installed a trans with only like 3k miles on it.

  5. On Monday night, I traded in the GTO for a 2013 Kia Optima SXL.

I was tired of fixing up the GTO and dumping money into it. So..I upgraded.

This is one sweet ride. Navigation, bluetooth, TWO sunroofs, all the seats are heated included the backseats, the front seats are cooled as well. Everything can be controlled by voice. Sirius radio for free for 3 months. It rides so smoothly and feels so nice. It is well worth the price they charge. I love it.

It's a power loss, but 274hp is not so bad. Turbo gives a nice kick. :)

Traded in the GTO at 116,050 miles, left the lot with the Optima with 16 miles. :willy:

First thing is going to be tint in about 2 weeks.

  6. DISCLAIMER: I apologize for the lack of quality in these pictures, working on a 5mp camera.

Not a lot of pictures for this one. Just some results! I performed a claybar and polish/wax for this one.

You can see here the normalcy that the paint turned into. Nothing special, no depth and no shine or metallic flake showoff.

    Taped off:

Nice gauge in the paint here.

    All gone.

No winners at a game that doesn't exist anymore! (still a little left, I worked it a little more and it is all gone)

  7. DISCLAIMER: I am doing this write up, but I did not do this detail. Lewis did 95% of the work. I just did the engine bay and the trunk lid and the windows. That's about all I think I did. Direct all compliments to him! I also apologize for the camera quality. Working on only a 5mp camera for this one.

Alright, well let's give a huge welcome to Lewis to the detailing work. His first detail was with a flex and on his car and he has become a monster since. :smiley-cool11:

We started off with a foam wash at bright the **** early. We mixed the rest of his Griot's garage soap and some Adam's soap that was already in my foam gun. He enjoyed this part a lot. We did two foam downs, did not do a two-bucket wash. Then covered the car in detail spay and used the Great White Drying Towel to wipe it all done and dry it off.

    Here is the engine before:

    1001604.jpg

We then claybarred the car. We got the car nice and smooth and then I wiped it all down with some waterless wash to clean off the detail spray and claybar residue.

    1001550o.jpg

I then proceeded to take pictures of the level of damage on his fresh cleaned paint.

His top levels were destroyed. This car was brutal all around cause Lewis drives it like its not funny. I'm glad this was finally getting worked on.

After some technique adjustments and yelling at him to keep the pad flat and stop leaning the machine back, we finally got some results!!

  8. Jebus BRZN, do you not drive your car? How is your bay that clean? lol ... Also, why is the tips of your headers so shiny and in the 3rd pic, it has a clean cut line where it goes from shiny to raw or dull. What's with that?

Man I cannot WAIT until my GTO sits in a garage. The first thing that's happening when it sits is the engine is being completely taken apart and cleaned.
