  1. So, as promised, I am posting pictures of my first ever detail on my first car. Did the whole process over this past weekend. Here are the steps I followed:

    Wash (Adam's Shampoo)

    Clay (Adam's Clay Kit)

    Swirl & Haze Remover (partial)

    Hand Polish

    Quick Sealant

VRT on plastic bits (did not do the wheels)

    Buttery Wax

I used Swirl and Haze Remover on the hood and the driver's door and did not see any satisfying results, so gave up and did the rest of the car with just the Hand Polish. Lots of elbow grease was spent and lots of calories were burned. The result was satisfying though. I am still a little sore :)

    Here are the pictures:

The arsenal of products (almost all of it Adam's)

Before the wash (tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible)

The scratches are evident here (left corner of the hood). The yellow and orange lines visible on the hood are overhead wires :)

DId not take many pictures during the process. Here is what she looked like after I was done:

This is a major scratch on the hood that will take some serious machine polishing or wet sanding

I have a new 2011 Ford Ranger truck and on about day 10, my wife took the truck to get some bark dust. Long story short, I had a scratch in my tailgate that looked a lot like the scratch in your hood. I do not own a polisher, so I took it to a body shop to see if they could get the scratch out, they tried, but could not. In fact, they made it look worse that is was to start out with. I happened to be in a Costco store and thet were selling clear coat sticks / pens made by the 3M company. They were about $13.00 if I remember correctly so I bought a package of three. Anyway, followed the directions on the package, scratch is gone. Might want to give it a try. I did hand polish the next day, I am not sure if I could find the scratch now if I tried.

  2. PR plain and simple IMO. He needs positive PR after the rant sound file went viral. Was it the right thing to do? HECK YEAH! I just wonder if it was his idea or his PR persons.

Sent from the past using special algorithms and data nodes!

I hate to say this, but I agree. After I heard that audio of him going off on that guy I think he is kind of a ***.:lurk:

  3. I wanted to thank everyone who commented and sent me different links. My wife and I did a lot of reading and talking and we have decided to go with the GT / California package / 5.0 engine. In the end, we both wanted a auto transmission and really did not need the extra hp of the Shelby, even though we loved the looks. Anyway, red convertible, black stripes, black interior and navigation. We are meeting with our salesperson this morning to place the order. We hope to take delivery by the end of September and start our trip the first week of October. The other thought is he may be able to locate on and have it shipped in, we told him that would be fine as long as it is exactly what we want with all of the options. If that happens, we will start our trip the first week of September. Again, thanks to you all for your help and comments.:patriot:

  4. Get a Prius! :lolsmack:

lol j/k I'm getting up there in age as well but I cannot imagine EVER wanting to buy a car with that kind of horse power WITHOUT a stick shift...

Are you planning on tracking it or taking it to the drag strip? If not I would question why to get that much HP? Of course there's always bragging rights

Cool idea on driving Route 66 though. Something I still want to do one day with my daughter!

No, I dont think I will do any racing with it. It is just my " getting close to retirement " and " going through my midlife crisis " car. So unless they have a race day for middle age, overweight, and balding guys, I think I will stick to Sunday drives!:glasses:

  5. Nice choice with the Cali Special...i'm kind of bias to them. As for Shelby are you looking for the big horsepower numbers that Shelby has?

Not looking for anymore horsepower than a 5.0, just the overall package / looks / design of the Shelby. It is a very well designed car with great lines and looks to it.

  6. The only personal Mustang experience I have as an owner was my first car, a '79 with an inline 6.

However, I do know that for the right price you can order just about anything the way you want it. I have several friends that have ordered vehicles optioned out in ways that you won't find on a showroom floor, website or brochures.

Best wishes on your new toy when you do decide to pull the trigger. You will be well pleased. Every single friend of mine that took this route was. Can't wait to see the pictures.

I am thinking I will open a new facebook page just for this trip and post pictures along the way! Cant wait.

  7. Sounds like a fun idea... Personally, I think I'd start at about the St. Louis area of Route 66, but hey... If you have the time...

You're a bit early to see the soon to be released SUPER SNAKE GT500... Shelby isn't cheap... You'll look to add 25,000+ to the cost of the donor vehicle.

Personally, I like the Boss 302, but I hate some of the stripe packages they have for it. I'm not a stripe guy though... I like a less in your face car.

You won't go wrong buying a 302... TONS of power which is VERY street able, and a great suspension package.

    Chris

I drove the Boss and enjoyed it, it handled very well. Again, it only comes with a manual transmission so I decided against it.

  8. I have been wanting to do this for years now, and my dream is getting closer. I have always wanted to order a new Mustang, have it shipped to a east coast dealership and drive it home on the famous route 66 all the way to California. Anyway, I am getting ready to pull the trigger on this and make the drive in the fall. So, now my question to all the Mustang folks out there. I went looking at different Mustang's last weekend and drove the Gt's and I drove one Boss 302. I did not get to drive the GT500 as no one in my area has one, but I have looked on the Fords website and did a lot of reading on them. All in all, I like to looks of the GT 500 the best, then the Boss 302, then the standard GT. But, I am showing my age and do not want a manual transmission. I loved to shift when I was much younger, but now I just want to sit back, press down on the gas, turn on the ac, and drive. So, I had decided to go with the GT model with the California Special package on it, but then the salesperson told me that if I wanted to, I could order the Gt model and then sent it down to the Shelby factory and they would in fact make my Mustang GT with the automatic in to a look alike, and the same power as the GT 500. Has anyone heard or this, or better yet done this. If so, I would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance to all of you that can answer my questions.

  9. Well,I posted this on the 4th of July as I thought it would be a interesting topic becuase of the holiday. In no way was is meant to be political, mean spirited, or anything other than a paper I wrote in high school about one of the greatest, kind hearted, talented Americans of our time ( in my opinion ). I guess the meaning is different to different people, but to me all it meant was we will in the greatest country in the world. Walt had a great deal of love for his country and would never want to live anywere else. There was no hidden meaning in this post other than that. I am sorry some people may have read more into it.

  10. I don't remember much from my high school days ( don't ask why, that is a long story ), but I got up this morning and remembered a paper I once wrote on Walt Disney ( yes, it was one of the few I wrote and handed in). Anyway, Walt was getting his hair cut in a small town barber shop, the same small town he grew up in and visited all of his life. A group of men were in the shop and they were all talking. While Walt was *in the chair, one of the men waiting his turn was complaining about all of the trouble in our country, people, politicians, economy, war, poor leadership, on and on this man went on. Walt later wrote " I sat in that damn chair, kept quiet until the barber finished with me, I got up, paid him, put on my hat jacket". " I walked up to this guy, and spoke quietly to him. I am sorry you hate my country so much, but I am a generous person he said. I have enough money in my pocket to send you anywhere you want to go, you and your family. The only thing I ask, he said, you can never come back to my country, EVER! Now , he said, how much is it going to cost me to get you out this country that you hate so much. Walt wrote, everyone in the shop was quiet, waiting for this mans response. The man just starred back at Walt and his opened wallet. Then he just got up and left. Walt said he never saw the man again, but the barber told Walt on visits after that the guy would call when he needed his hair cut to make sure Walt was not in the shop. A story I will always remember and taught me a little about what being a American is all about.

    Happy Birthday America!:patriot:
