New Car Care

Team Adam's

Question

I just bought a new car. What steps and processes should I take to care for and maintain it?

With any new vehicle it is always a good idea to use a clay bar. What a clay bar does is remove all types of surface contaminants from the paint, such as bugs, tree sap, paint overspray, fallout, rail dust, etc. Skipping the clay bar process can cause light scratching and swirls marks. To test to see if your vehicle needs claying, place your hand inside a small sandwich bag and rub the top surfaces with little to no pressure. Feel rough? Clay. Feel smooth? Start Polishing. You want to use our Clay Bar in conjunction with our Detail Spray as the "Clay Lubricant." Claying a mid-size vehicle should take about 20 minutes, a full-size truck closer to 45 minutes.

Once you have finished claying, apply a coat of either our Revive Polish if working by hand or Fine Machine Polish if using a dual action polisher. Both the Revive Polish and Fine Machine Polish will help to enhance the depth, clarity, and reflection of your vehicle's paint. Even on the new car, you will see a difference after using a Polish.

Again, depending on how you’re applying the polish or wax, toss on a coat of Buttery or Super Machine Wax for protection and added shine.

To maintain your vehicle's shine, hand-wash it regularly, and use a mist of Adam's Detail Spray on the paint and glass as you dry the vehicle. Apply a coat of Wax every 3 months or so, depending on if the car is washed regularly and where it is stored (outside or inside). Detail Spray is a Great alternative to Washing if there is a little dust on the surface.
