jub jub
Does 2000 wet or dry have a place in our detailing arsenal? I bought some tonight because I have some scratches I just can't get out with Swirl and Haze Remover and the orange pad.
0 Adam
John, are they single deep scratches? Wait for the new 4" pads to use with your cordless drill before hitting with sandpaper!!

Yes, they are single and deep enough to feel with the finger nail. Ok, will wait for the 4" pads.
0 Bill-V8V
even 2000 is aggressive, if you get to that point consult a pro before attempting. Ask AJ (Junkman) for some tips, he did some nice videos on wet sanding

0 Junkman2008
JunkMan!!! You out there?? Junkman, reporting as ordered sir! Hold your horses there Jub Jub! You don't even want to get next to your car with some 2000 grit sandpaper unless you know what you're doing. My first time making that mistake cost me $1900. I could have used that money on something else! Wet sanding is something that you learn to do on a junk piece of car. I tell people to go get a fender or hood from a junk yard to learn on. Get something that you can lay flat across a horse so that you can work comfortably and get a lot of light on it. Your wet sanding papers will run anywhere from 1000 grit to 3000 grit. Most professionals will tell you that 3000 grit is like staring at the scratch! I feel a lot differently and in the videos that I did, you will see the results of what 3000 grit sandpaper can do. Before I found out about Adam's products, I made a series of videos detailing the process of wet sanding. You can watch them and see the process as I do it. You must pay strict attention to the information that I give in the first video as I cover a lot of rules. Also, I would never recommend that any novice or professional try and do this without a paint thickness gauge unless you have the funds on standby to repaint the area of the car when you mess up. Before I did that video, I had about 6 months of constant practice under my belt so I had learned a bunch by then. Here are the videos. Feel free to hit this thread back up with any questions you have. Be sure and click the high quality link in order to see the detail of the work I'm doing. 0 Junkman2008
Good Stuff Junkman:thumbsup:, Question, So when you are done, can you tell the difference, like with the orange peel that is notorious on the Corvettes? Shine On Bluezey:pc: You can if you look close enough. Check out this picture: In the middle of the area that I am working, you can see how flat it is. But as you check out the outer edges, you can see what looks like pimples. This is the orange peel that is notorious on the Corvette finish. Now I could take the time and sand the entire car down and make it smooth but I'm way to lazy and that is way too much work to do without getting paid! I figure I'll get the orange peel out one scratch at a time. lol!

And anything along a seam could have sooooooooo little clear that a PC could take it down to the base coat.

And anything along a seam could have sooooooooo little clear that a PC could take it down to the base coat. Exactly. Especially if the car has been painted. The PC, although not as powerful as a rotary buffer can still wipe out the clear coat with the right compounds and enough applications so you could easily have different levels of clear on the car.
