scs02C5
I just used my new horsehair brush for the first time and OMG! the smell almost killed us all - I may have gotten the horsehair from the wrong end! Anybody else have this problem? Is this normal and how do I get rid of the smell? I have tried APC and soaking it in bleach but the brush is winning. egott_91
Yup. Definitely smells, and not in a good way. Smells like a wet dog IMO. I've had mine for 2 years, still smells.
Team Adam's
Its a natural fiber so its going to smell like wet animal to one degree or another. You can soak it in a bucket of diluted APC to reduce the smell a great deal. I believe someone even shampood one of their brushes to keep the smell down. Schwag one
Ha, this is too funny. I was going to post something later today. I think everybody got the wrong end of the hair. Thanks for the tip Dylan. I try giving it a nice bath later THE Mook

Feets31
My nose must be broken, never noticed it. The new wheel cleaner is the only foul smell to reach me.
THE Mook
I wonder if because it's real hair, if you used Human Shampoo on it, then cleaned it after with Adam's APC...

scs02C5
Cool - at least Im not the only one. I will give the human shampoo idea a shot and see what happens. I guess on a positive note I dont have to worry about my wife using the brush...at all! :-) THE Mook
TheBurninator
I kind of just ignore the smell. It could be worse. Mine doesn't smell nearly as bad as it did 6 months ago. I bought a different brush from Detailers Domain and it has the same smell to it.
GerryC
I wonder if because it's real hair, if you used Human Shampoo on it, then cleaned it after with Adam's APC... Also good if your brush has dandruff My Boar's Hair brush smelled a little bit when after it gets covered with cleaners and dirt enough it fades away. Like others have said give the brush a good cleaning with APC or Car Wash Soap (or a mix of both!) and it should reduce the smell significantly
j-r35
Odd, mine doesn't smell as mentioned, but when/if it does, i'll be sure to hit it w/apc.
