Paint protection coatings and removing tar, bugs, and other sticky stuff

wely324

Question

Hi, I have a Modesta coating on my car and im looking for the best way to remove sticky road grime, and bugs, etc from the vehicle without marring or scratching the finish. I feel i always make the mistake of using to much pressure. Is there anything that helps loosen and remove bugs and tar without harming a finish like Modesta?

Thank you for any help.

First off, Welcome Billy!

A pre-wash spray of Waterless Wash should help.  The plus with a coating is that harsher cleaners will not remove it, so if the Waterless Wash does not remove them I would also suggest trying some diluted APC (50/50 water).  That should break down the bugs enough to allow them to be removed without scrubbing.  If the area is very bad try soaking a thin MF towel with duluted APC and place it over the area for 5 minutes or so.  Be sure to rinse those areas well afterwards.

Just a suggestion - pretreat the "buggy" areas first, wash the wheels while the bugs soak, and come back to clean the off bugs.
