Gel Coat Pores

BGP

Question

I read that Gel Coat is a harder surface than paints & clear coat, so much tougher to correct. OK - I'll have to use a more aggressive compound and just work harder than most of the surfaces on cars.

Also from what I read once oxides & scratches have been cut/corrected/polished the Gel Coat will be nice and smooth but is a more porous surface than painted surfaces. If I were to proceed with Adam's Graphene coating on this porous material what should I expect? Will it 'sink' into the pores? Will it level properly? How about on vertical surfaces?

First, welcome!

Yes, in general gel coats are more difficult to work with than clear on a car. Some people use rotaries to get the job done. After polishing, simply follow with Surface Prep like on clear coats and apply the coating as normal. Vertical surfaces will not be any different. Longevity, however, should not be expected to reach the same timeframes as on a car.
