I'm actually not entirely sure how to tackle this, I can bag the filters and I'm not worried about water penetrating the harness but what is the best way to tackle the silicon joiners and anodized parts? Also having some trouble with the factory aluminium parts like the intake manifold because they are rough and seem to trap dirt.

  2. How did you find the cyclo mate? Im going to pull the pin on one soon, as everyone on here says they are a piece of cake to operate and safe for a wally like me haha

    I'd certainly recommend it if your starting out Troy. Learning curve is easy, Low vibration means you can wield it all day long and it gets a pretty good result when you get your eye in. I also think it would still be a valuable tool later on when you have a few different polishers to choose from. I am looking at purchasing a Flex myself but only to tackle heavily damaged cars/panels, I still see the cyclo as being my "go to" polisher for the most part.

  3. Hey, question on thar ute... Are those things AWD?

     

    No they are a leaf spring rear wheel drive. The arch rival ute ( Holden SS ) is independent rear end. The Holden sedan was exported to you guys under the Pontiac branding but sadly Aussie motoring ( Both Ford and Holden ) are ceasing Aussie built cars in 2016. We are getting the Mustang in 2015 and GM are yet to say what they will be importing

    302 V8, 6spd manual and live back end. It keeps you alert to say the least haha

                         Paint looked wet when I'd finished but I struggled to get a good photo with my 8mp Phone Cam. DSLR is on the shopping list!

     

    Hi Chris, Unsure on the paint code mate, It actually wasn't black up close. Paint actually looked really dark blue with a green fleck under lights. I'll ask my bud what the actual code is, would be interesting to see if it is unique to Ford Aus or if it is an American one.

  5. Hi All,

             Been a busy past couple of weeks here but I really wanted to stop in and share this with you all. Really proud of how this came out as not only was the vehicle sporting fairly reasonable damage, It was one of my close friends pride and joy. Someone recently attempted to steal the vehicle and did a significant amount of damage, The panel shop that fixed it also left their signature unfortunately so I promised my friend I would set things right for him and get her shine back ready for summer! I got to spend 27 1/2 awesome hours on this vehicle and enjoyed every second of it, Best of all my friend was over the moon with the result.

     

    Correction was performed with the Cyclo and a pass of each compound and pad, One pass with the microfiber made an incredible amount of difference however I really wanted to put my best foot forward on this detail and had authority to do so! Here's what I did

     

    - Clean Tyres and Arches with Adam's APC and 20" fender brush

    - Clean wheels with Adam's Green Wheel Cleaner

    - Dress Tyres with VRT and Arches with Undercarriage Spray

    - 2 Bucket wash using Adam's Gamma Seal buckets and Adam's Car Shampoo

    - Dry with Adam's GWDT

    - Clay bar with Adam's Detail Spray and Claybar

    - Pass with Adam's Paint Correcting and Microfibers

    - Pass with Adam's Paint Correcting and Foams

    - Pass with Adam's Paint Finishing and Microfibers

    - Pass with Adam's Paint Finishing and Foams

    - Pass with Adam's Revive Polish

    - Pass with Adam's Brilliant Glaze

    - Pass with Adam's Liquid Paint Sealant

    - Pass with Adam's Patriot Wax  :D  :D  :D  :D

    - Stand back and stare for a while

    Luckily I had permission from my friend to take the ute for a quick cruise to a local park to take some more pics, Cruising in a freshly detailed black ute with a rumbling 302 in the Aussie sunshine, this was a cool experience I really didn't want to end :wub:

  6. Hi Rich,

               Owner is selling unfortunately so he wasn't keen on going the whole way. I couldn't even convince him to let me wash the wheels! I think he was just interested in removing the overspray so he could ask a bit more for it. He was pretty impressed though so there is a possibility the new owner may bring it back for a full correction which would satisfy my OCD!

  7. Hi Gents,

                  Been busy with paint corrections and details but haven't really had a car come through that deserves posting. I actually didn't think this one would either so I didn't take any before shots :wacko:. The original phone call I received was to give the car a quick clay and paint seal which I penned in for about 2 1/2 hours of work. When the car arrived that quickly changed.

     

    The vehicle was covered in a very thick layer of industrial overspray, It was so thick that while washing and claying it sounded like I was sanding with 40 grit. It took 9 hours total to fix this but I think the car came out great considering. I did manage to marr the paint slightly during claying so I can't advocate this process until I understand the why's, But this is how it went down

     

    -Complete Clay of vehicle using Adam's Claybar, I used Adam's Detail Spray in the light areas and Adam's Waterless Wash in the heavy area's to move the contamination

    - 1 Pass with Adam's Paint Finishing Polish, White Foam Pads and Cyclo Polisher

    - Apply Adam's Liquid Paint Sealant with Grey Foam Pads and Cyclo Polisher

     

    Here are the pics, Probably more of a curiosity for you guys in the states. Quite common here in Aus. These are a rear wheel drive sedan that is powered by an inline 2.5 liter 6 cylinder turbo. The kids love them because they are cheap and can fry the tyres quite well, And it doesn't really matter if you hit the wall at your local track :)

    I also learned something very valuable while doing this car about photography. This car is actually still full of scratches from washing, Some of the worst I have ever seen. But the angle of the shots hides them from the camera and actually makes the paint look flawless, when the reality is it is not. It really proves you can't always trust pictures on the internet, And I'm noticing some tricks some professionals use to make cars look significantly better than what they are. For my customers, I'm only to happy to point out where it could be better, And I believe they appreciate the honesty :)

  8. Hi All,

            I had an interesting experience on the weekend while removing overspray from a customer's vehicle, and I'm hoping to get a better understanding of why. I had a black Nissan Skyline come in with large amounts of industrial overspray on the roof and hood, and quite alot on the side panels also. I cannot confirm how long the car had the overspray on it, but it took alot to move it off the clear. I began with Adam's Claybar and Detail Spray and struggled to move the contamination, I tried using Adam's waterless wash with the clay and had good success moving the contamination from the really heavy area's. While using the waterless I noticed a very slight marring to the clear coat, I thought possibly the waterless wash wasn't lubricating sufficiently and switched back to the Adam's Detail spray. Even with the detail spray I was still experiencing the same level of marring which lead me to believe that possibly one of the following was occurring

     

    - Unusually soft clear coat

    - Clay was loading up with contamination (Switching to new clay still marred paint though)

    - Exerting too much pressure on panel (Again, Tried different levels of pressure but still same result)

    - Is this possibly normal and I've not noticed it before

    - Any other ideas?

     

    I ended up going over the car once with Paint Finishing polish and white foam on the cyclo which removed the marks and made the car look great, But I guess I want to know if the marring is normal or not? If it's not, I need to pinpoint where I went wrong!
