    Detailed the Detailing Cart!

Cleaned with Waterless Wash, dressed all plastics with Super VRT, and used Detail Spray on the painted metal surfaces.

Last night I got back in a Jeep! Traded in the creature comforts of my 14 GMC Sierra, but I missed being in a Jeep more. I got the dealership to remove their "detail" charge after I got the sales manager to do the baggie test. haha It needs a full correction. I'll get some more pictures today. It has a couple items I want to change right away, one being either a stubby bumper to match the cut flares or find factory fenders to put back on it.

The feeling of being in a Jeep will always win out over creature comforts.  It's a Jeep thing.  Only a Jeep owner would understand!

That's why I kept mine instead of trading it in when I got my Challenger.

During the week of August 2nd, my son and I flew to Maryland to pick up our newly acquired 1966 Impala.  Appears to be garage kept as the original interior is in excellent condition for being 49 years old.  The package shelf and the carpet are the week areas.  The 283 / Powerglide combo run like a top!

We took five days to drive it cross-country to Arizona.   It did well, averaging 17 - 19 MPG.  Except for a mechanical issue in OKC that was quickly repaired, it performed excellent.

It was repainted some years back.  It is a single stage repaint.  My guess it's a Centari Enamel repaint.   My preference is to leave the car as is and only repair some minor mechanical issues.

The Adam's air freshener took care of the "old car smell" in the interior.   But after the road trip, I had 2410 miles of bugs and road dirt to remove.

I started by jacking the car up and placing it on jack stands.  Made it easier to clean the undercarriage and engine compartment with APC and various brushes.  I will soon remove the wheels to adjust the drum brakes and will hit the fender wells and backsides of the wheels at that time.

Followed up with a three bucket strip car wash.  I think the previous owners used turtle was on it, as I has lots of it to remove from under moldings and emblems.  I also scrubbed the jambs.

After blow drying the car, I proceeded to clay the paint.  This was probably the worse I've ever seen as I needed two clay bars.  The biggest improvement I noticed was to the glass.

The old paint was too far gone for Adam's Paint Correcting Polish, so I broke out some more agressive stuff I still had along with my oldschool Snap On buffer.  This Centari is hard stuff!  However, it did help a bit, and I followed with Paint Correcting Polish.  Maybe when the weather cools off, I may color sand it.  I followed with Adam's Paint Finishing Polish, but only on the roof and hood as I really noticed no benefit.  Maybe if the paint was in better condition, I might have noticed a difference.

An IPA wipedown followed and then I applied some old Adam's Machine Super Sealant and allowed it to cure.  Time to hit the interior.

Copious amounts of Adam's Leather and Interior Cleaner were used on the seats, door panels, and dash.  Adam's Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner was used on the carpet.   I followed with Super VRT.  That stuff is awesome!  Adam's Window Cleaner cut through the "film" the previous owner could not remove with foamy stuff and paper towels.

I haven't figured out what to use on the 49 year old trunk mat, as I did not want to damage it.  For now, wiping it down with APC will do.  After removing all of the junk, I vacuumed the trunk and returned only items that belong in the trunk.  Another area requiring caution is the original trunk spatter paint, as liquids can damage it.

Spent about 23 hours on it.  I slapped some Chevy Mag Style Hub Caps on it, dropped it back on the ground and this is the finished product.

Later that day, I drove it to a local cruise and was pleasantly surprised with all of the attention it received.  Clearly the interior is the best area of the Impala.

The next day, I gave it a quick two bucket wash and followed with H2O G&G.   I think it turned out very nice considering what I had to work with.

I may try some Adam's Brilliant Glaze before taking it to the next cruise.

Now I have a reason to buy new Adam's Orange and White Foam Pads as I ruined my old ones.

Well, after having viewed a lot of these posts, I feel like a slacker for having not taken pictures before I started my efforts, and not including interior pics.  I really didn't think about it until I was done and was so pleased with the results.
Both cars got a full treatment, inside and out. The products I used were:
Leather & Interior Cleaner Leather Conditioner Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner Glass Cleaner Glass Sealant Edgeless Utility Towels Microfiber Glass Cleaning Towels Cockpit Brush Premium Interior Dressing Applicators 2-Bucket Wash with Car Wash Shampoo and 10" Car Wash Pads Big Blue Clay Bar Detail Spray Super VRT Liquid Paint Sealant (on the Challenger, daily driver) Buttery Wax (on the GTO, garage queen) various hex grip applicators, microfiber applicators, Great White Microfiber Drying Towels, Double Soft Microfiber Towels Adam's Wheel Brush Kit (yes, all 4 items) A lot of elbow grease and TLC
The payoff was that after I finished, I drove the GTO to a local tavern to get lunch and a cold beverage.  There was a red 2015 Corvette Z06, and also a red 1965 Mustang convertible that appeared to have been a full frame off restoration on the lot.  I parked my freshly Adamized GTO with it's 47 year old lacquer paint and the 47 years worth of minor door dings etc, and it outshone them both.  As I sat inside, enjoying my lunch, I heard numerous people commenting on how good the Goat looked, and nothing about either of the other cars.

I have slowly started the process of bring back the paint on my 98 GMC 2500 that I bought new. The paint is showing its age and wash marks. So I am using my new Flex for the first time. It's doing amazing.
I'm also using my newly learned process of using detail spray along with the 2 step process. No more biting compound onto the paint.
So far I've cleaned, 2 step cut and polish, brilliant glaze and LPS on the hood, tailgate, passenger door and fender. It's looking better then the day I bought it.

I still have a lot of work left. Then onto the tires and wheel wells.

Some before and after pics of the latest "appearance" mods:

Switched out the chrome lug nuts for black ones.

Got rid of the stock stainless exhaust tips, which I never cleaned (shame on me), because I had planned to paint them.  Buying ceramic coated black ones was less work then painting.

Finally got rid of the blue oval emblem with the chrome bezel on the tailgate .  This one is a stock emblem and bezel that was custom painted to match the truck.

Yea, I'm going to change them. Most of the Chevy's come with the black trim, most of the GMC's have the chrome.
Thanks. Awesome, it don't take long if you don't do correct washing! It really opened my eyes on paint correcting & proper way methods.

With the heat wave we have had for the past three weeks, the garage was getting too hot, so I had to move my product into the basement to keep it cool.

I look around for some storage bins to fit the 16 oz bottles, and found these.  Each one fits 12 bottles, with a little extra room on the end.  They have flip tops and handles.  The handles do flex some with the weight, though.

I put regular washing and cleaning products in one, then polishing products in the other.  This way, I can just grab one container for a typical wash.

2006 Sierra. I did this customers Yukon last year as well. This time he wanted his Sierra buttered up. Its his daily driver so as you could imagine there was quite a bit of contaminants and some refinery fall out from around the area. This truck already came in great shape so there wasnt a huge correction to be had. Thus why we went with one step this time, worked perfectly and corrected back to 75-80%. This turned out great and its really tough to show the pop of white but this really did look dripping. Hope you enjoy. Another water free detail, clocked myself at 4:56 duration on this one.
