Could it be leftover APW from the applicator being placed back into the tub, rubbing onto and then perhaps sticking the lid to the tub? I know I personally clean my hex and the lip of the tub. But I havent applied it only played with it. Also, I clean all my bottles and lids and such after each use.

I noticed some of the big box stores are having storage sales now for big old bins...I think Lowe's had some black ones for like $10 for a 2 pack...

I keep mine in a lined tool bag (lined with a junker towel and the bag was wiped clean beforehand), if the towels are moist, I let them dry out before putting them back, as to aviod the mildew.

Soap where? In the bucket? That all depends! I can make mine foam like no other if I want, but that isn't gonna get my paint clean! Make sure your bucket is clean, turn the water setting to almost all the way hot, slam your washpad(s) into said bucket, lay one ounce on each pad, and add according water. I never have suds issues.
