EDITED: UPDATED - Pic Thread of different types of damaged paint
ramflava replied to ramflava's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
I think its a 2007. I believe the pictures mc2hill posted are close to what I'll be dealing with. So I may need to decline trying to fix it? That sucks. They love that car and it's expensive! -
EDITED: UPDATED - Pic Thread of different types of damaged paint
ramflava replied to ramflava's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
No, it's not hazed. It almost looks as it the paint is wilted, withered, or cracking under the clearcoat. -
Hello all. I'm curious to see the various looks of damaged paint that can be corrected (not by repaint or wet sanding). I've been asked to detail a BMW 650i (black) that has some sun damage. The paint almost looks like it is withering or cracking. I didn't have my camera on me to take a picture and I won't likely see the car again until the detail date on April 1st. I'm curious if everyone can post various pictures of damaged paint caused by a hot sun or sun exposure. Maybe someone out there has picture that matches what I'm up against. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I finally got pictures of what I was trying to describe. Is this correctable or a repaint? (See Pic 2)

Have you considered hand polishing with revive maybe? -
Is it me or am I seeing things?
ramflava replied to ramflava's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
Well, I swallowed my pride and I'm eating humble pie. The need for a good polisher at an affordable cost has caused me to give the SK a try. Although I still dislike that it is made in China, I will give it a go. I've read good things about the SK, so I just bought one. -

Now that you mention it, I think I remember that video too. Well, it is his company and he must to what is best for it. Not everyone will agree with his every move, but if it works I can understand the move. I still don't think I'll be buying any polishers from Adams, but I still love most everything else. All I have for polishers are the PC and Cyclo. Maybe I'll just save a bit longer and go for a Rupes. -

I thought Adam stayed away from Chinese production! Thanks for pointing that out though. I won't be buying these now. -
Are the two new polishers (Swirl Killer and Mini Swirl Killer) very similar (new twins) to the Rupes polishers? This isn't a bad thing in my opinion. I've been wishing for a Rupes polishers, but I just can't afford them, but if the new Adam's Swirl Killers are re-branded and slightly different versions of Rupes, I think I might be able to save some $$ to get them. It's actually a genius move if that is what Adam's has done.

Hey everyone, I just got my first bottle of strip wash and plan on stripping and washing my police vehicle. The vehicle is all black with the exception of the two front doors. Those are vinyl wrapped in white with my department badge and motto stickers on top of the vinyl. Is strip wash safe to use on the vinyl and door stickers or should I use Tire, Rubber and Trim cleaner? Thanks in advance for your input.

Full Detail including Paint Correction
ramflava replied to jakerodz7's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
I would consider taping plastics and rubber. Also consider placing tape on the opposite panel overlapping the gaps to prevent product from getting inside the cracks. Technically, you can apply and remove glaze and paint sealant instantly. Many people here, including myself, like to let sealant cure for about an hour or longer. Some overnight. I say 1 hour is good. Not sure you need to apply 2 coats, but if you want to I think it'd be safe to apply after wiping off the 1st coat. -
H2O G&G After Washing With Wash and Wax?
ramflava replied to Focus_Red's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
G&G is short for H2O Guard and Gloss. W&W is short for Wash and Wax LPS is short for Liquid Paint Sealant. -
H2O G&G After Washing With Wash and Wax?
ramflava replied to Focus_Red's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Well, can we use the same logic as just using wax? We know wax doesn't last nearly as long as LPS and it eventually evaporates. That being said, if you were to wash, clay, and seal with LPS or even G&G, maintaining with W&W for several months should theoretically work. Then maybe after 3 months, skip the W&W and hit it with shampoo and some G&G. Maybe that would mean 1 time per year LPS, 4 times per year with G&G and W&W all other times. Just my "3 beers in" amateur logic. -
Need a 2nd Job. CarMax hiring detailers
ramflava replied to ramflava's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Albuquerque, NM I walked in today to talk to the hiring person. I was met by the front desk person. She said I couldn't talk to them because I needed to apply online first then they'd call me. I had to explain that I'm just trying to get details of the job before I waste anyone's time applying for something that may or may not meet my needs or schedule. She was pretty resistant, but finally took my name and number down to supposedly give to the operations people.....For some reason I see myself having to go back in. -
