Dawn Detergent?

skippyburger

Question

I was toying with the idea of switching to Dawn whenever I do a customers car on an exterior detail. I only think that this might be a good thing because of the following reasons:

1. The car is getting clay barred and polished with Swirl & Haze, then Fine Polish.

2. Then it gets sealed and waxed.

3. These cars are almost always daily drivers that have never been properly cleaned since the day they were made.

4. I know Dawn is strong and I want everything stripped off the paint before I polish it back to life.

What's your thoughts on this, for total rehab cars only?

Dawn will work, my issue with it has always been it doesn't produce very thick or sustained suds, thus leaving you with flat soap/water mixture and no cling late in the wash. In turn the lack of lubrication means higher likelihood of swirls.

I've gone to the APC and car wash mixture since I can control how aggressive the mixture is, it foams REALLY well, and I still get all the lubrication I need to prevent swirls while still fully stripping the finish.
