Made it to Alaska

My wife and I finally made it to Alaska to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We went with my sister and her husband. Started out in Vancouver where we picked up a ship and did the 7 day cruise. 1st cruise for us, and it was great:2thumbs:.

Got off the ship in Seward, where we took a whale watching cruise. This was a small boat that only has 12 of us on board. No fighting for window or deck space for pictures!!! After that we took a shuttle to Anchorage that included a detour through Whitter Tunnel. One lane, 2 miles, and you need to share it with the trains. In Anchorage we picked up a car and headed to Denali. 92 mile trip into the park on a school bus -- NEVER AGAIN... We did become member of Denali's 30% club. A perfect cloudless day to whitness the magnificent beauty on the mountain:rockon:.

Against everyone's recommendations, we drove up to Fairbanks. There really wasn't much to see, so we went to the North Pole. If we had more time, it would have been fun to go up to the Arctic Circle for pictures. We did have lunch at Big Daddy's in Fairbanks just because it was featured on Triple D. Pretty good food.

On the way back to Anchorage we detoured to Talkeetna. A very nice small quaint town with a cat for a mayor. From what I understand, it is the place to go if you want to climb Mt. KcKinley.

Back in Anchorage we did take Brandi's advice and had lunch at Humpy's. Good food, and be cause we were between lunch and dinner, we got a table right away.

Hopefully this link will take you to skyline drive so you can see pictures. There are some videos, so they may take a bit to load.

I know Brandi is going to drag me there kicking and screaming the entire way... LMAO! It looks like an amazing trip and I can't wait to go there myself. Now to decide if we go during the summer or the winter for the first visit :)

I was thinking this winter. March maybe?

You will absolutely love it up there. I want to go back just to head out to the Valdez area. In May they hold a short take-off and landing competition which I'd love to see.

Thanks for the comments. It certainly is a great place to visit. Everyone we ran across was friendly, helpful, and very helpful.

The tour bus driver for the Mushers Dog Sled camp is going to run the Iditarod Race in 2014. He was by far the best tour guide we had.

I know what you mean. I took over 1500 pictures and my wife took close to a thousand. Of course my camera was set on continuous shooting trying to catch sea life doing there thing. Without it, I would have missed the whale tail pictures or Eagle carrying the crow. There were many times I was wishing I had something bigger than a 300mm lens.

Saw your pics of Pikes peak :2thumbs:. When we were there the day was crystal blue skies. By the time we got to the summit, storms rolled in and we were told to stay either in the train or the building.
