694doorbird
We are getting ready to fire our pay TV and convert to free HDTV. We bought an antenna and it's pulling in 32 channels, which is plenty for us. I'm looking for a recorder to be able to record shows. Does anyone have a good recommendation? Kingsford
Theres nothing out there that works well that you won't have to pay for which kind of defeats the purpose. Cheapest out there is TiVo, $50 for the device $15 a month. Channel Master DVR is $250 with no subscription but it's still very new and has it's problems. Kingsford
Or you could build one yourself. Don't know what kind of software you would need though.
gbod
We were in the same boat a couple of years ago after we cut satellite. My wife really wanted to record stuff to watch later, so we ended up going with TiVo since it was way cheaper than what we were used to paying. After a year we decided it really wasn't being used enough to justify the monthly fee, so we got rid of that also. There really isn't any thing else out there subscription-free except the Channel Master DVR that Jason mentioned. (Which I have not used.) The other option if you are technologically inclined is to build your own home theater PC with an over-the-air video capture device. That would end up being more expensive than the Channel Master though.
Chewy
I'm waiting until Sling hones their new offering. The only HD we get here are the big three so going free just isn't going to happen.
