Ray, body shops typically use "rotary" polishers or buffers rather than the "random orbital" or "dual action" action polishers.

Rotary machines can damage / burn through paint where the others really aren't able to do so, unless misused or mishandled.

hello all wondering if an electric powered polisher is generall prefered over a pnneaumatic-air compressor powered like body shops use? could one be too fast/strong and possibly burn paint? thanks

Most of the leading polisher manufacturers make pneumatic tools similar to their electric tools.  I know Rupes makes some very nice DA and rotary air tools, and when speaking with folks from Rupes, they like them just at much as the electric versions.
