How to Tell if Repainted Car is Single or Dual Stage Paint?

Hi Everyone,

 

My neighbor just bought a '75 yellow Corvette that was repainted a few years back and wants to polish it up.  It's in good shape, light to medium swirls in it, so I'm not sure what to recommend to him... Does he start with the Correction Polish then move to the Finishing polish?  How can I tell if this car has clear on it or not, or does it even matter?  I've only worked on newer cars so this one is virgin ground for me.

Always start with the least agressive polish. If it's single stage paint, you'll see some paint transfer to the pads.

 

You can polish single stage paint, just don't be overly aggressive with it since you're actually working the paint itself.

Thanks.. will start with a test spot using the Finishing Polish with a white pad then move on...

My suggestion is to do a test spot in a door jamb or somewhere not easily seen to figure out the process.
